DO YOU REGRET YOUR WLS??????

I have been thinking how I would respond to your post.
I can only share with you my feelings and experince.
I would do RNY again and again even with the complication I had which was a large blood clot which my vena cava filter caught and saved my life.
WLS is a major life style change and you have to be willing to accept the changes that you choose when you decided to have surgery.
I am living for the first time in my life and doing things I have never been able to do before.
I may never become skinny but I know I am so much more healthier than I have ever been.
Before surgery I was taking 4 shots of insulin a day and I was getting sicker by the day being super morbid obese.
The medical problems from obesity can be and are life altering problems.
Personally I got to a point in my life I was willing to do what ever it took to get my health back.
Once you start loosing your health you relize just how important it is.
I almost  lost my sight from my diabetes and it took me over a year after wls to regain normal vision.
The loss of my sight was due to type 2 diabetes and after several proceedures my sight is better than ever.
My advice to you is ask yourself are you willing to accept the changes from wls in order to become healthy again.

I am a bit different than the others.  I was 40 when I had the surgery.  I had NO medical problems.  The only thing wrong with me was that I was overweight.  I was 255 when I had the surgery.

Now - would I do it again.  YES YES YES YES YES.   Best thing I have ever done for myself.  I had no problems before and I have no problems now.

Kendall

Only regret was that I didn't do it sooner......

I think I have pretty much made up my mind to do it. I am just getting home from work and let me tell you...I am exhausted. Trust me, after the surgery, I will still be tired from standing on my feet all day, walking up and down the halls at school and just doing "teacher" things but I think being lighter will make a difference. I don't have any comorbidities like diabetes or high blood pressure but I can feet the effects of the weight on my joints and my back. I get all sweaty by just walking around the classroom and I am alway just down and out. I am excited...but....I just got a call from the PA at my surgeons office. I know I had blood drawn last week and I hope she's saying all is a go!!!!!! Thanks yall!!!!!

Next MONDAY is the day!!!!!

I am only 9 months out and No I don't regret wls. I had HB,  high cholesteral, a lot of knee pain, shortness of breath, was 54 with a father that died of a heart attack at 58.  I figure my life was going to be a short one. I had been on every diet known to mankind  could lose weight but always gain it back. I basicly ate health stuff but had no full switch.  Now I do and I have to listen to it. I could have wls health issues in the future but I feel like they will be less than what was coming my way with out the surgery.  I was a happy fat girl my whole life...rode horses ,camped , playef softball and other sports. But with age it turned unhealthy. No I do not regret wls. But only You can decide if it is right for you.
Good Luck

I am 2.3 years out from surgery and do not regret yet.
As with any procedure there can be complications/issues... its sad that MM has had such a rough time, but for each person that has a bad time there are many more that had no issues/complications. Its important to know the good and bad and make an informed decision that works for YOU based on that.
I have had no complications/issues since surgery. I did have to get my gall bladder out earlier this year and it may or may not have been surgery related but thats really minor. I have no food intolerances and can basically eat whatever I want. I have been able to maintain my goal weight since Feb of this year.
I really did not have medical issues pre-op and still dont have any post-op... my joint pain has improved, I no longer get rashed under my stomach/legs, my BP is lowered and my cholesterol is excellent - I feel better than I ever had in my entire life... for once I feel like a 'normal' person.

I'm 18 months postop.  No regrets thus far.  I've had a complication-free course to date.
