Anyone have probs gastritis after RNY?

I have been having a stomach ache since yesterday and burping like crazy.  I have eaten very little.  Well, I did some research online and it sounds like gastritis and says alot of docs put patients on Prilosec for 6 months to 3 yrs after surgery to avoid this and ulcers.

I took a Prilosec to see if it will give me some relief.  Anyone know anything about this?  If the Prilosec doesn't help the stomach acids, I will be sure to call my surgeon.   I am not having any bowel probs ...just stomach discomfort, nausea and a pukey feeling when hungry and sometimes after i eat.

Sounds like me when I had the H Pylori bacteria.  I took mega doses of antibiotics.  I could eat a handful of crackers without problems and finally got over the pukey feeling.

Certainly see your doc if this continues for another day or so.

Drink and keep hydrated.

Thanks Sheila...that is why i figured i would try Prilosec for a bit and if it doesn't get better, i will call my surgeon.

Hi Pam,

I haven't had an issue with that, but I know that Duke routinely puts their patients on at least a 1 yr course of Prilosec to avoid gastritis and ulcers. If it were me, I'd contact your Dr. regardless. It certainly can't hurt.

Please let us know what the Dr. says.

Unfortunately, I had to delete this message due to privacy concerns.

I am currently on nexium for six months after surgery and I believe its to keep ulcers away as well.

Thanks all... i am feeling much better today.   Maybe it was a bug.  Think i will stay on Prilosec for the therapeutic 14 days just in case.
