New here!
From your first appointment to talk with your surgeon, how long did it take you to have the surgery? I'm pretty sure I will have the gastric bypass...
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!
Cindy
Hi Cindy,
Welcome to NC forum on OH. I hope that you will find it to be a supportive and informational as I have found it to be. Please feel free to ask any question and to post your observations, concerns and thoughts. We all learn from one another and there is no such thing as a 'stupid question.'
I had the gastric bypass, otherwise known as the RNY and have wonderful success with it. My husband is in the process of being approved for the same surgery.
Please feel free to ready my profile for details about my experiences. It addresses not only my experiences with the surgery, but also with insurance and timelines.
Wishing you every success in your own journey.
All the best,
Barb

When you go see Dr. Bauman, he will tell you about the surgery you choose, or help you choose one that's right for you. He will let you ask all the questions you want. He'll take all the necessary information. Bring your support person if possible. You will then meet with a girl who will go over your insurance, or how much you will have to pay. They will then give you a list of things your insurance company requires for surgery. Some people get them done sooner than others, so the time varies from your first appt to surgery. Once your requirements are finished and you turn in your information, they are very quick at sending it to insurance. Depending on how fast insurance acts, is how fast you will be approved. Bottom line is how fast you get your testing done, and how fast or slow insurance takes.
Be assured Dr. Bauman is a Center of Excellence -COE- and they are very efficient in everything they do.......they do it in a timely manner. Best of luck to you and please ask any and all questions you may have here.

I just spoke with a friend of mine from work that had her RNY yesterday. She is in an awful lot of pain this morning and on a pain pump :( Is that pretty normal? She also is having a hard time breathing and has a lump in her chest .. she's waiting on the Dr to come in this morning, but the nurse is worried that it may be a blood clot. Geez, Now I`m worried! But I know each surgery and person is different.
Anyway, thanks again so much for your warm welcome! I look forward to getting to know you guys!

I'm new to the group, too.
I started the process a couple years ago, planning to do self-pay; however, a change in job status nipped that in the bud!
With my current employer, I had a waiting period on pre-existing - weight loss had been included. The waiting period expired in May and I was a squeaky wheel with the surgeon's office staff. I received approval from BCBS within 24 hours (on Aug 26th), but Dr. Gersin was scheduling surgeries 10 weeks out (Nov 4th)! Due to work, I scheduled surgery for Nov 18th ... can't wait to join you all on the loser's bench!

Welcome to the NC family Cindy! You will find a wealth of knowledge and support here. I credit my success to these wonderful people. From my inital visit with nurse prac at my surgeon's office until surgery was about 3 or 4 months. But it does zip right by. I am almost 7 months post RNY and love it. Get ready for the ride of a life time. If you have any questions, ask away and there are plenty of ppl more than willing to help you.
