How many calories are you eating?

I'm just wondering how many calories per day everyone is eating.  I'm at about 1000.  Is that too much for 8 months post op?  Thanks Christy

I am doing about 1000 cal a day also and I find it is just about right.  I am losing very slowly at this point, but I'm not putting much effort into it, so I am happy.  I have a friend who decided to finally lose her last 20 pounds 4 years post op (we both have lap band).  She had a terrible time, until she INCREASED her calories to 1300 a day!  Of course, the 1300 are better quality calories than the 900 she was trying to lose on before.  So in a couple of years, if I still have 20 pounds to lose, I'll give that a try.

The most important thing with calories I have found is I have to record my intake.
I am burning 1300-1500 5x a week.
I was counting carbs and almost not including any at all but since I record my intake my carbs are still in the low range and to tell you the truth I think I do better with some carbs in my diet.
I have to watch the starvation mode that our bodies hate and if that is going on your body tends to hold onto the fat.
There are many sites you can record your intake on but the one that works for me is sparkpeople.com

I have found that if I vary my calories, i seem to lose more as my body doesn't have a chance to get use to a set amount.  During the week I average about a thousand and on the weekends, I either do more or less,  depending on what time i get up.   If i only eat 2 meals a day, it is about 800 or if 3 it is 1200 or so.   I also am much more active on the weekend with yard work and other outdoor activity.  During the week i am lucky to swim or walk a mile when i get home as I am mentally exhausted.

I eat about 1200 a day and am still losing...... I stagger my calories and never get the same amount in daily. It helps your body not to get used to having the same amount daily. I don't think you are eating too much.

Check with your Nut. I know mine told me to stay at 800. I lose better with the calories I am eating.  I do not want my body to get used to fewer calories. so when it's time to maintain I am not only eating a thousand............. ohhhhhhhh heck no.......... I eat protein first and follow all the rules strictly...............

Good Luck..........

My numbers may not exactly apply to most of you since I'm a man and unfortunately you ladies seem to have to eat less calories then us men in order to lose weight.  Yes, not fair I know, but I didnt make up the rules...

My NUT told me to target around 1200 a day at this stage in my weight loss.  Ultimately I will be eating 2200-2400 when I get to the maintenance stage.  So far this is working great.  I've hit 100 lbs today since surgery 5 months ago and a total weightloss of 130 lbs.

There have been some days where I was just plain ravenous and at as much as 1800 cals.  Many of you may say HOW?  Well let me tell you, it doesn't take much volume of food in order to hit 1800 cals if you are eating the wrong bad foods.  Then theres some days like today for me where you are just plain not hungry and have to remind yourself to eat.  I think more important than anything is to eat the right foods and eat until you are satisified, but you have to hit a minimum amount.  Your NUT will tell you what calories and protein level to target on a daily basis.  Generally this is at least 60 grams protein and 800-1000 calories a day.  If you follow the program, and eat good healthy food to satisfy your hunger, your hunger will be abated and you will lose weght steadily.  Plateaus are another story.  They happen to all of us.  Just search the boards for 'Plateau Buster'.  Lots of information on this topic.

Have a great day...

I think alot of it depends on your body type, muscle mass, and of course activity level.  I try to jog/run at least once a day during the week and have been trying to tone my arms as of late.  I'm also a (deepens voice) man, like Dalton so I too have found that I can eat much more than my wife (also a rny'er).  With my level of activity and body type (I'm 6'2" and a large framed) I find myself eating around 1500+ per day and I'm stil losing.  I have also found that when I try to cut back (800 or so), my loss slows way down.  I try to make sure they are "quality" calories, but every now and then I'll find myself slipping.

Unfortunately, I had to delete this message due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!
