In a panic about the weather

I will never forget Fran as long as I live.
Fast forward to now.
I know I am in better physical condition than I have ever been and could handle if we were hit by a hurricane.
My problem is my concern about my animals and loss of power.
English Bulldogs cant and I repeat cant handle the heat.
Lee and I are talking about getting a generator so we can run the window unit in the kitchen.
I hope these storms will not hit us but I have to use what I have learned from other bad weather situations.
I will probally be one of those who would not evacuate because of my animals.
Going to get on my treadmill before going to work and when I get home I will look at the weather and then I may or may not have to make a deal with the devil to go get a generator.
Lets just hope for the best.
I did not sleep well at all last night thinking about everything we need to do in case.

Annie,  If you ever EVER feel the need to evacuate WITH your beloved pets, now or in the future, you have my number.  I hadn't checked the weather yet today so I'm going to go do that now.  You are in my thoughts!

I wish I had a crystal ball just for tracking storms. Living on the coast has a lot of perks but hurricanes are not one of them. I've got my sons and a friend or 2 securing some things in the yard today. (It's the end of the season so it needs to be done anyway) I bought a load of charcoal last night on clearance at CVS and I've made sure that the gas bottles on the grill and pop-up camper are full. So we've got several options for cooking. The pantry is stocked with canned foods and I've got an abundance of disposable dishes and utensils. We sorta look at the aftermath as a camping trip. I don't know if my generator will power my pop-ups AC or not. I've got battery power for lights and such so we've got our storm plan fairly ready.

I always make sure I've got a spare 50 lb bag of dog food this time of year. I've got plenty of water on hand with an above ground pool in the yard - so if nothing else my babies (9yr old black lab, 3 yr old blood hound & 11 month old great dane) have plenty of food and water.

I hope ans pray that we aren't affected by Hannah or Ike.

I hope you can find a solution for your pets if the power goes out.  We have no pets, and it's times like this I'm glad we don't.  We DO have a generator.  It won't run the heat pump.  But it will run the fridge and freezer and microwave and/stove, and TV.  When we lived in OR it ran a fridge, a freezer, the TV and the pellet stove.  It's a biggie.  We took my DH's CB antenna down this AM.  It either needed to be better secured at the top of the pole, or taken down.  Since it was just me doing it (while he held the ladder), we brought it down.  Everyhting else from the yard is secured and the generator is in the front of the shed where it is easily accessible.  Important papers and a video of our possessions is in our HUGE safe that is fire and water proof.  I guess if it gets blown into the next town, we will have to go looking for it, but all the stuff in it should be safe.  We have plenty of food and water and batteries and everything else we need.  I have a small bag packed with a change of clothes, pills for a week and the laptop.  I have plenty of cash.  So we are ready.  Bring it on (actually, I hope it goes out to sea).

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

Okay, seriously friends.  If there is an evacuation and you have nowhere else to go with your pets, head on I-40 up the mountain to our house!  Feel free to PM me for our phone number, just in case.

Yes, since we are under construction here you would need to BYO bed stuff (air mattress, pillows, blankets, etc.), but you are more than welcome.  We have 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, central air, wireless internet, and we are no longer in major drywall-dust mode...just haven't finished the paint, trim, and refurnishing (other than our personal bedrooms)!

I've told my hubby that as we do refurnish the house, I am using every space we can to house as many people as possible for times like these!  In the meantime, like I said, BYO bedding if you need to take us up on this offer.  I just want to know that everyone is safe!

I knew you reminded me of someone you remind me of the lady on a comercial years ago "Mother Nature" LOL
I love you for your very kind and generous offer.
I just checked the weather and it seems Hanna is loosing power.
I will be watching Ike and Josaphine next.
I am waiting for Lee to get in to talk about making a deal with the devil but I do think we should get a generator for times like this.

Fran sat right over Topsail Island where I was living at the time and completely destroyed EVERYTHING on the island. The sand was up to the bottom of the stop signs. The house I was living in that belonged to my boyfriend was half GONE. One of my saddles ended up in a tree out in the forest. A boat was parked on top of the garage... we had no power or water for 18 days. My dogs (pug and boston bulldog) CANNOT take the heat either!!!! I have a generator we bought a few years ago and you can bet it will be running the fans I have since I have central heat and air... if it goes on for too long Im taking them to a hotel!!!! I hope it just skirts the area and takes off without damaging a thing and boy am I glad I DO NOT live on Topsail island anymore!!
