My Husband's Heart - X post

As I have said before, my DH is working to get a lap band, since February!  Doing his diet and all his tests.  Went in yesterday for the results of his stress test.  He has a problem with the bottom of his heart.  The tests show he had a heart attack sometime in the past.  He has no recollection of one.  SOOO - now more tests.  A trip to the Heart Clinic in New Bern and a heart cathaterization later in the month.  LAST month, we had a scare when his abdominal ultrasound showed nodules on his kidney.  Further tests proved they had "no medical significance."  We are NOT gonna worry until we have further proof of a problem (Yeah, right!)  We are still confident that this WLS will happen sometime in the future.  Meanwhile - he is being checked out from top to toe, so that is a good thing.

Sometimes all these tests seem pointless BUT if there's a problem better to know now and fix it than deal with it on an emergency basis.

Keep your chin up and good luck to you and hubby.

Yes, be thankful for the tests!  So sorry to hear about the prior heart attack but at least now they will be able to help get him in tip-top shape.  Once he is cleared for the surgery, it will be great knowing that the lap band will also help get him there.  Here's to better health in your hubby's future!  Hang in there...and *try* not to worry.  {{{Hugs!!!}}}

My DH had what they called a silent heart attack three months after we got married.
He had a stint put in days after they found out he had a heart attack and he hasent had any heart problems since.
I wish the best for your husband and know medical technology has come a long way to the good in so many ways.

So sorry to hear about the heart problems your husband has had.  Sort of the silver lining is the fact that had he not begun this process how long would this have gone undetected?  How much more damage could have been done to his heart?  Thank goodness they have found the problem and can hopefully correct it.  I'll keep both of you in my prayers.
Hugs! Donna L (finding_me) - I just know I'm here somewhere...

Thank you everyone for your positive thoughts and prayers.  These tests seem like a pain, but when he is all done I know he'll have the guts of a 25 year old.  Then he just needs to work on the outside!                                                 We are bracing for Hanna's visit this week.  I hope she goes to see someone else!

I nagged my DH into getting a physical and really opened up a 'can-o-worms'. He had an anomoly on his EKG so the doc sent him for a stress test which begat more stress testing and then a catheter. He has a condition he was probably born with (he's 59) called Cardiomyopathy. He is of Japanese decent and the particular type of this condition is related and is the least dangerous kind. He fortunately is not athletic but also not sedentary and is only maybe 10 to 15 pounds overweight. The Doc said this is why he has remained healthy. He had no blockages thankfully and except for a lot of bruising from the procedure he did fine. He still is going through trials of beta blocker meds to slow down his heart rate to see which one works best for him but he is fine. At least now he will be seeing his doc on a regular basis from now on. I bet you will never have a problem again getting your DH to keep up with his regular checkups with the docs so all in all this is most likely a good thing and he will be fine. I bet he will still be allowed to have his surgery and most likely will have the blessings of the docs because of the heart thing.

Oh that is concerning...  I sure hope and pray that his stress test goes well and that he can proceed with the WLS.  At least you know he's getting a thorough medical workup.

Band to DS

Unfortunately, I had to delete this message due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!
