RECENT LABS: HYPOTHYROID

So why the smiley face?  Because those were the results I was hoping for and I feel validated!  I have been saying I am hypothyroid for decades but always tested borderline normal so in spite of my clinical symptoms, I was never put on supplementation.  Finally in July I had 1 yr bloodwork done and learned that the T3 was low.  My weight loss had stopped and I felt I was struggling to maintain, I was depressed (but attributed that to no weight loss), my skin was scaling around my nose and eyes, and recently my hair started to fall out like a shedding collie dog!  Also my memory was playing tricks on me...attributed that to age...and all the old aches and pains were coming back.  I was really down.

So it was actually good news to find out there was a treatable reason for all these symptoms, and I got retested a couple weeks ago and the numbers confirmed the diagnosis.  I got put on T3 supplementation (a low dose... 5 mcg) and in a week I swear I am already feeling better!  I don't know how long it takes to see therapeutic levels in the blood, but I understand it can take weeks for full clinical benefits to be seen.

The fog seems to be lifting, thank God!  Now maybe I can shed these last 20 lbs!  We retest in November.  I will keep you posted.  Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday!

Hey Suzanne:

I am right there with you but mine showed up in less than 2 months after surgery.    If it wasn't for my mom telling me to have PCP test me, I would still be struggling.

According to my PCP, hypothyroid hits after major surgery and/or during menopause.   In looking on the internet, they say the stats are about 25% for menopausal women and that doesn't incl. our surgery.

When someone has a stall that last 2 weeks or longer and they complain of fatigue, we need to get the word out to get the thyroid test.

Glad they finally got your test and that sweet little pill will do miracles.   I also felt better after a week and the scale started to move.   Think it can take up to 30 days to get the full affects so look out world..here comes Suzanne!!

Take care, Pam

Ohhh thank you, Pam!  Because of course now that I am feeling somewhat better, I want MORE!  LOL  SO looking forward to seeing that scale move again!  My mom was also hypothyroid so I knew the odds were definitely in my favor for being diagnosed with it eventually.

Suzanne,
I am glad that you were deligent in pursuing the labs... so many people don't  and even knowing our own bodies we have to push for some things to be done.
You will feel better sooner than later now!

Thank you for your support, Shelia.  If there is anything I learned from this whole WLS experience, it is that you have to be very proactive in your medical care!

I agree 100% about being proactive with our medical care.
I told my doctors nurse to please send me the results for my labs.
Havent heard a thing.
I also emailed the nurse asking for the results and I especially wanted to know what my FSH level was which I requested they do.

That's one of the many things I love about my PCP:  he always has a copy of my labs to hand to me when we meet to discuss results!  AND he doesn't act all threatened if I suggest certain testing be done.

Guess what was in my mail from Saturday my labs.
Now going to have to figure what is the normal ranges for them.
Also I got a letter from PS saying I do not fir the requirments from my insurance for PS.
Im not going to freak out about this I am going to follow through with this until I get the answers I need.
They did give me the choice of going to the cosmetic section of PS.
Looks like I have another battle in front of me.

Don't worry, Annie, you will prevail.  The laws in this country about insurance coverage for PS are changing daily with many suits being brought against the insurance companies for non-coverage.

Thxs for the info Suzanne,
I think after talking to my surgeon earlier this month I had the impression the extraskin removal was medically needed.
The PS has worked on my before by removing the hanging stomach after I lost the first 300lbs.
I am hoping this is just lack of communication somewhere.
