I told my boss about my WLS

Well, I did it.  I finally told my bosses, my principal and assistant principal, about my eventual surgery.  With so many Dr. appointments I have in Greenville I knew I needed to go ahead and let my principals know what was up since I may have to miss work or leave work early now and then.  I knew they would probably be supportive, but I wasn't prepared for their gushing, loving, nurturing overwhelming support.  They were, in a word, thrilled for me.  When I told them I was concerned that my eventual surgery date and recovery might interfer with work, my principal gently put her hand on my arm and told me not to worry about that at all.  She told me my health was more important and I should concentrate on that.  Then my principals put icing on the cake by telling me how much they appreciated my hard work, I was the best music teacher they had ever seen, and how awesome I'm going to be when I have even more energy and feel even better.    One factor in my favor is a well known, well liked local city official who comes to our school a lot.  He had RNY surgery over a year ago and he looks GREAT!  Everyone knows he had WLS and the community has been very supportive of him too.

Congrats.  Having a supportive administration will make a big difference.  I worked for a major corporation when I had my WLS and it was great.  I didn't have ot tell anyone but hte people from HR when I filled out my paperwork.  I felt so happy though once i made the decision to have it.

I hope things are sucessful and the process goes quickly for you.  I don't live to far from New Bern these days.  I had my WLS in Charlotte though.

Merideth,

That's fabulous!  It's wonderful that you don't feel like you have to hide, and now you know they're supportive of you.  You'll find as you work your way through this journey, having that positive support makes everything you're going through a little easier to take.  :)  Congrats!

That is wonderful Meredith.  Thanks again for the visit in the hospital and the nice cup you brought to me.  Keep me informed and let me know when your surgery is so I can come and visit also!!

So far I am still on protein shakes  -  yuch!! I do eat a little sugar free jello.  Chicken broth is my favorite.  I know that doesn't have all the protein I need, but it tastes good.

That is great and I know it's a good feeling that you have their support.  I didn't run into anyone who was not supportive but I work at ECU/Pitt and am a pt of Dr. Chapman too.  You're going to be so happy you're doing this!  Congrats!  Alice
