And what about the green hat, Dena?  Is it a requirement once you go below your goal?

I have to admit to feeling pretty tired for the first few weeks. It got better over the course of the first few months. Remember that everyone is different. It depends a lot on your base resources, health, stress, etc... Of course, this is major surgery and takes about 7 to 8 weeks to truly recover even if you have a lap procedure. On top of that remember that you aren't getting the calories that you would normally. That said, I would generally expect that you will bounce back in a few weeks, rather than a few months.

I think alot of it depends on the individual person and our ages.  I am 53 years old, had surgery on Tues and was discharged on Thursday.   By Friday I was out on short (hour long) shopping trips and felt awesome as i was able to rest when i needed to.  I went back to work after 3 weeks and suddenly, i felt so tired I felt i could barely function.   Someone told me the anesthesia stays in your system for 6 weeks so it takes that long to get back to normal.  When i wasn't getting back to normal, was exhausted and surgeon said everything was fine...i went to my PCP and had thyroid checked and sure enough, it was low.  Once i got on synthroid, I was full of energy.

I think if i had to do it all over again, I would have taken 3 weeks off full time and then went back half days for 2 or 3 weeks.    I know i still would have had the thyroid probs but feel i would have eased back into my full time job.

Take care!

I guess I was unusual ....3 days after I got home from the hosp. I was Christmas shopping. I was so siked up about the wls that I did not have time to feel bad for long. I have not felt bad other than a cold in August. When you are not carrying that 100lb bag of feed around with you all the time ....you just gotta feel better. Have you ever picked up 100 lbs of horse feed. Oh my...what did I do to my joints and body for 90% of my life. We are butterflys emergeing from out cocoons of obeisity.
