1st Adventures in dumping

Oh my Go****hought I was dying. Yesterday morning I had a banana protein shake and made out fine. Since there was a 1/2 of a banana that was going to go bad I decided that's what I'd have again for dinner last night. Looking back I think Oscar the Pouch tried to warn me that wasn't what he wanted to eat but I ignored him (BAD BAD BAD). I used the whole piece of banana that I had plus the milk, a little Fage and the protein powder. I think it was probably way to much dairy and sugar from the fruit and milk.

If you've never dumped - count your blessings. The best I can describe it is when you're getting the stomach flu and you know it's just a matter of time before you begin wretching - there's an overabundance of saliva that you just can't bear to swallow. A certain crampy feeling that your guts are revolting against the rest of your body. Alternating cold sweats and inferno like temperatures. Your heartbeat pounds in your ears. Your head aches and it seems like your eyes are ready to roll back in your head. I wanted to curl up into the fetal position but the least little bit of movement caused all of the above feelings to become much more intense.

Oh it was horrible. But once I woke up this morning I feel good. There are no bananas in my future for quite some time.

Have a great day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I certainly can not speak from experience but I do know that the riper the banana the higher my blood sugar will go after eating it. So the banana (very ripe) was probably the culprit. Oscar still needs some time to recover from his birth so take it easy.

Band to DS

Unfortunately, I had to delete this message due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

OUCH!  Sorry you had this happen so soon after surgery....  I'm one of the lucky ones that doesn't dump, but then I stayed away from sugar of any kind until about 6 months out....  Be kind to Oscar until he gets a little older!

That is the most vivid description I have read on dumping!  It made me realize that what I've thought all along is right...my IBS attacks are exactly like dumping symptoms.  They even sent me into seizures on a couple of occasions when I was in my early 20's.  I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.  So sorry you had to experience that, Iris.  Hopefully that will be the last time for you!

Bubbles laughs to herself and says "Oscar you need to make your owner listen to you"
Oscar says "I bet she will listen next time".

I've decided that Oscar has earned the supreme spot of being a spoiled brat and his owner has invested too much time, money and effort on him to not listen. Chalk it up as a big lesson learned. New mantra - "Bananas are bad...bananas are bad...bananas are bad"

Iris you just wait Oscar has many new lessons to teach you.
Old habits die hard.
Just a little while ago Bubbles wanted 17 wheat crackers she hasent had many crackers in a long time so for a morning snack she thought that sounded good.
We wont be doing wheat crackers again guess we do better with our melba rounds.

Iris,

I'm so sorry that you had such a bad experience. Remember to go slowly and I'm sure that you'll be able to add bananas back into your diet, but do so gently. As you said, I imagine that the combination of the lactose and fructose gave you an overall higher 'sugar' count than your dear Oscar could handle. As he matures, you'll be able to handle things a little better.

I'm glad it passed and you are feeling better.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with dumping. I have never experience dumping yet. I got a weird feeling when I was was early out with musinex and an egg. But not as bad as yours so I don't think it was dumping. I have had to throw up because it did not chew my food enough or ate to fast. We all learn as we go. Pouchy very seldom gets grouchy for me butttt when he is bad he is very bad. Good luck with oscar.
