I threatened him....I do not think it scared him. 

He says to throw out the scales and stick to the measuring tape.  I have had a problem with that little square box myself lately.

Hey Andrea,  Instead of a sledge hammer, just accidently drop the weights on it.  That should teach it a thing or two...
