More Lap Band Questions...
Revision on 10/10/14
Hi Lap Banders,
I have been lurking and reading this forum trying to find out how the Lap Band experience is. I have a few questions...
First of all...what is PBing? I have read this term on some people's pages and I have no idea what that means?
It seems like a lot of lap banders have had issues with vomiting and getting food stuck. Sounds painful and miserable...have you experienced this, and what tips are there for getting past this?
On average, how many lbs./month do you lose? I know its slower than RnY, and I am ok with that (on most days) but I really hope to be at least down 50-60lbs in the first year.
Is it true that the bigger you are, the more you lose, faster?
Finally, do you have issues with getting pills stuck when you take your medicines? I take these huge pills that already make me gag slightly, and I am really concerned that I'm going to have issues with this when I get my band.

Good Morning and Welcome! I am a little over a year out now and have lost almost 80 lbs. PB stands for progressive burp, and it's when you burp and some food comes back up. I really havent had this much at all.
yes, I have had issues with food getting stuck. IF you do not chew and eat SLOWLY like they TELL YOU TO DO........you most likely will get stuck. Think of a kitchen sink drain. You cram a bunch of stuff down it, it will clog. If you slowly pour purees down it, it goes thru easier. If you do get clogged, or stuck, most likely your mouth will start "sliming", (producing saliva) and this will build up on top of the clog, and most likely, you will feel pressure and the food needs to get out. Vomiting is not what you associate it with now.......the clog is up top, not down bottom where it is agony working it's way out. BUT, if you try to eat slower and chew chew chew, you should not have problems!
You can see my profile about how fast I lost the weight. In the beginning when I had more fat and water to loose, it came off quick. The closer you get to goal the slower it is. At least for me.
As for pills, I don't have a problem with them if I take them at night. I have read though that the big ones dont pass thru your band, they sit and dissolve, which is not a good thing. I'd ask my Dr. if the pills you are on come smaller or in liquid form.
Feel free to ask me any other questions. I'm sure you will get other feedback from this post that is great advice too, and don't hesitate to ask anything here......we've all been there, or are "fixin" to! Have a wonderful day!
