New to NC WLS group... HEY!
Hey, ya'll - I was talking with someone on the general chats and she told me about the NC forum - I just hadn't gotten to it yet.
I wanted to say hello and find out anything I can about any support groups in the Asheville area. I have a LAP Band and at the point where I think face to face support would help me alot, but I just missed the most recent one that meets once a MONTH!
Would love to chat with ya'll and find out about meetups that aren't too far from where we are. Babysitters are EXPENSIVE!!

There is a support group meeting in Hickory on Thursday night and I plan to go, along with a couple of others - it is sponsored thru Hickory Surgical Weight Loss Center and they have a new psychologist onboard who will be speaking. I have met her and I think she is going to be very informative and helpful to us.
Would love to talk to you, so I will wait until you have a chance to check things out and then I will send my number.

Hey, Shelia - yes, thanks for directing me to this group. I'm impressed already.
I'd love to go to the Hickory group - as i mentioned to Shauna, I'm a mom with small child, so babysitting is needed and I may not be able to arrange that this week, but definitely for others.
Is there a fee for the group? I'll email you privately with my numbers.

I'm your neighbor in Black Mountain...my hubby works in Asheville.
I know there are at least 4 of us from Buncombe County going through Hickory Surgical right now. One just introduced herself via email this morning and the other 3 of us are in our initial stages (Nancy S., Nancy H. and myself).
Nancy S., my hubby and I are all riding together to the support group in Hickory this Thursday. (Can't wait to meet Shelia there!) It will be our first time attending. I've also heard good things about the support group through Mission which I will most likely attend it somewhere down the road.
Look forward to getting to know you better!

Hi, Shauna - awesome - we actually live in Black Mountain. I use Asheville because of the Mission center there (figured more recognizable). I would LOVE to be able to attend the support group in Hickory - I didn't know about it - and babysitting would have to be arranged.
I heard I just missed the Mission group too - once a month doesn't feel like enough support at this stage in the game. I didn't check to see if this is a board post or a private email, so I'll email you separately with my phone number.

Diane, I just messaged you with my phone number. Feel free to call anytime. If you can arrange to go to the support group in Hickory with us this Thursday, we are going to meet Nancy S. at 5pm here in Black Mountain to all head down together. (Hubby, Nancy, and I.)
We just may have to arrange to get together, us ladies here in the area, once or twice a month ourselves outside of the hospital groups!
If my crazy home remodeling were further along, I'd offer to have it here.

P.S. Tell me more about you! Do you work outside the home? What age(s) are your kid(s)? Do you have any in the Owen school system? I'm a stay-at-home mom to four...ages 20, 19, 15 (9th at OHS), and 8 (3rd at BMP)...married 22 years. We moved to Black Mountain from Indiana 5 years ago and we LOVE it here!

How old is your son? When I went to the surgeon's appt, I took my daughter and granddaughter. Mattie is 16 months and no one thought anything about her pilfering around. I really think that it would be possible to take your son with some quiet activities....
Think about it. I have not been to the support group so this is my first time, too. Looking forward to it.

Hi, Shelia - my daughter is actually 7 (I'm a late in life Mom). I may take her another time, but she's at the age where it may not be appropriate to have her around and cause others to censor their conversation.
I'll keep working on it....
