OT: GREAT news here at our house!
I have been playing a waiting game, not only about WLS, but about another thing as well. One waiting game is difficult...add another and PHEW! I've been going bonkers! Here's the scoop...
We have been remodeling our home out-of-pocket. It's a 3-story, 6 bedroom, 4 bathroom home with a seperate cottage building we lovingly call "the shed." (We get teased about calling it that!) Since we paid off all of our debt besides our mortgage years ago, we choose to do all things on a cash-only basis. It's taken quite some time to make the dent we've made so far especially considering how many rooms there are to do. We do have a new kitchen, 1 new bathroom, new 1st floor flooring, and some of the bedrooms are remodeled nicely, etc. BUT, there are several things that are needing to be done SOON, like new roofs, gutters, and all new windows. After living here for 5 years and being in the midst of remodeling for at least half of that time, it's gotten really old and we are ready to get it done and over with!
So, last month we decided to see if our local lender would consider refinancing our home for us at a plan we felt worth the trade of borrowing the money to get finished. We found out this afternoon that we were approved!!!!!!!!!
We will have enough money now to completely finish the whole place like brand new, including making our 12x42 rear 2-story deck into a screened 3-season room! AND...I do not have to worry at all about coming up with the money for WLS out-of-pocket now that we have the weight of the remodeling expense off of our shoulders!
I keep saying things have fallen into place too crazy for the WLS to not have been meant to be. I'm so happy.

Things really are falling into place. I can't wait to see pics of your finished results of your house and after your surgery. We are hoping to start shopping for a home in the next 6 months to a year ourselves. We have been renting since we moved here to NC a year and a half ago.

Thanks, Ann! I will have to go around and take "before" pictures of the house to share with you all in the next week or so. Since we're both getting remodeled, we may as well both have before pictures, right?!
One of my favorite things to do is anything to do with real estate. We had to rent for about 10 months after moving to NC while waiting for our house to sell in IN. Hope you really enjoy house-hunting when it comes time and that you find your perfect place!

Good luck with the remodeling. We a couple of years ago built a log home here on Lake Gaston. We tried to do it all out of pocket but the bank won. HA HA We had someone stack the logs and then we took it over after that. It was fun and totally exhausting all at the same time but, so rewarding now to look back and enjoy the fruits of our labor of love.
You'll have to share pictures with us. Have fun.

I think we had the same adventure at one time -- or at least similar. We built a home on a lake in IN during the mid-90's. We did it almost to the end out-of-pocket, but took out a small mortgage in the end to finish. It was one of the best things we've ever done but we are too old to ever do something that extensive ever again! I'll be sooo glad when this remodel is over. I think the concesus here now is anything else in our future is going to be "turn the key ready!"
It was really hard to leave that house to move here Bet your log home is just gorgeous!
