Bump in the Road - and it is scaring me
I truly don't know what to think... I went this morning for the pre-op stuff - had an upper GI done and as I was coming home this afternoon, the surgeon's office called and said that there was some abnormal results of the upper GI. The doc wants to do an endoscopy in the morning - maybe take some biopsies - then hopefully proceed on with the band. They called it inflammation.
I have had no pain, no excessive burping, never nausea or vomiting. My first appt, they check for the bacteria H Pylori. I have had that before and it was horrible - but the test they do was negative.
I have looked online and inflammation of the stomach lining - gastritis - can be caused by excessive use of ibuprofen and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories - NOT - haven't used any in over 2 years. Smoking - NOT - never have smoked. Alcohol - NOT - never been big to drink and probably haven't had a drink in over 2 years.
And online - it says that it could be the first signs of stomach cancer.
Needless to say I am scared - nervous enough about having surgery tomorrow and now more worried. I could wake up without the band. Even though the NP said that Dr. Hata felt comfortable in proceeding with the band. But the radiologist recommends an EGD....
Has anyone else dealt with this type of thing??

Thank you for your concerns. I knew I could count on your support.
It is the unknowing that has got me concerned. What if I am put to sleep to have the EGD and wake up with no band??? I will be devastated.
If I had had some problem to pre-warn me, then I could be prepared. But I was pysch-ed up about the band, and now this....
Shelia,
My husband had "gastritis" found when he had an endoscopy. The doctor didn't seem that concerned... Of course this was over a month before his RNY surgery, but it *may* not be a big issue. i'm praying you'll still be able to have the band put in, but please let us know how it goes!!!
