3 1/5 Years post-op and starving!!!!!
Hi all,
I am new to the board and need some advise. I am I had my RnY in April '05 and went from 284 lbs to 172 lbs. For the past year, I feel like I can't get full. I eat and in 30 minutes, I'm hungrey again. I have gained about 30 pounds back and I am scared to death that I will put it all back on. I know I don't get enough exercise, but I work 10 hr days and I'm in Nursing school, plus a house and a husband to take care of. I am really worried and would welcome any advice. thanks...Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Welcome to the board! Sorry you're struggling, but you're doing the right things.
#1 - you're reaching out. Being active with a support group is one of the main things you see with long-term success. Don't panic about your re-gain. You can get control of it.
#2 - It sounds like you already have a pretty active life, but it's in your benefit to make some time for yourself! That's how you have to look at exercise. It can just be a 1/2 hour walk in the morning, on a lunch break, after work...whatever works. Put on an MP3 player and go, or get a friend or you hubby to go with you. I personally really like to go out just me and the dogs.
#3 - Return to the basic eating rules. Make sure you're getting enough protein, make sure you're not drinking within 30 minutes of eating, and make sure you're getting enough fluids EVERY DAY! If I have a day when I'm super hungry, I can almost always trace it back to not enough water. When you get that hungry feeling 30 minutes after eating, that's your cue to start drinking...a lot. That will really make a difference.
Good luck and keep coming back here...we're glad to see you!

Hi Debbie - Sorry to hear of your current struggle. It sounds like you really have your hands full. I know that when I'm stressed I don't always make the best food choices. I think by acknowledging what is going on is a HUGE step in getting things back under control. Have you contacted your surgeon yet to talk to him about what's going on? I think that might be a good place to start. JMO
Best Wishes!

Hi Debbie,
Welcome to the board. I second Deb's suggestions. I know it's hard, but steal some time for yourself, you are worth it.
I look forward to getting to know you.

How many carbs are you eating? Carbs will make you empty much faster than dense protein will.
I had a regain of 70lbs.. as of March 1st, I was 270, and today I'm at 212.5. So you *can* get back on track.. Don't say it's impossible because you are so far out.. look at my date.
You *can* do this. I encourage you to join us in Raleigh for our meetups.. it's a great group and I'd love to sit down and help you out (if you wanted).
