Is it ever going to stop?!

Hi Deb,

Thanks for the suggestions ... I think that the unnerving thing for me is that I've already done those things. I've talked to my nut. I've added in those extra fats and carbs and calories and I'm still losing. I've even cut back on exercise. I'm hoping you are right and it will level off soon.

Oh for heaven's sake, just have a nice slice of chocolate cheesecake every evening just before bed and you should see those old pounds stick like glue!  (Couldn't resist a little teasing there, Barb!  LOL)

Hmmmm.....

Chocolate and Cheesecake! Definitely key factors in anyone's successful weight maintenance plan! ;-) My sister is sure that chocolate is an essential nutrient and I think she must be right. I think I'll look for the nearest Cheesecake Factory and tell them to leave the splenda version in the kitchen.

You are looking fabulous!

Thanks for the "tongue in cheek" support.

Love,

Barb

Barb,  The one thing I love about this forum is the "diversity."  There are people from all walks in this journey of ours.    I am at the very beginning waiting for my initial appointments, hoping that someday I will have a spot on the bench with you all!  Then here you are at the end of the weight-loss portion of your journey, hoping to stop losing and maintain.  No matter who we are, or where we are at in the picture, it is an important moment.  Don't ever feel like you are whining!

I read this post earlier today and didn't have time to reply, but I have been thinking about you and also wondered if you have gone to talk to a nutritionist about this yet?  I understand that you can only eat so much!

I'm getting interrupted so have to end this here, but I will add...I'm all for the cheesecake idea!

Thinking of you!

Hi Shauna,

I truly appreciate your response. I probably shouldn't have posted this again, but in the same way I used to 'freak' when I'd get on the scale and see that it was up with out trying, I 'freaked' when I stepped on the scale and it was down again without trying.

I have talked with my nut. and will do so again after I get home.

Thanks again,

Barb

Barbara,

You are certainly not whining... but we can all hear the frustration.  When you get back home, call your doctor and consider some blood work - check your thyroid again.  Talk to the nutritionist and even consult a dietician.  My BCBS pays for a dietician - check your insurance policy.

If you are not journaling - then start now - then you have something solid to show the doctor, nutritionist, etc.

We love you and we can't wait to get a post by you that you have it all figured out and that it was a simple thing....

Hi Shelia,

I will see about having them check my thyroid again when I get home. I have talked with the dietician and will do so again. As you suggested, I have been journaling my intake and will continue to do so; hopefully, it will help the nut. hone in on a good plan of action.

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions. I truly appreciate them.

Warmly,

Barb

I wonder whether you had a proximal RNY or a distal RNY.  You might have greater malabsorption than other RNY'ers.  Maybe this is causing you to continue to lose weight...

With a proximal RNY a shorter length of the (digestive) intestine is bypassed.  With a distal RNY a longer length of the intestine is bypassed, so there's more malabsorption with a distal RNY.

Not that that's any help.... I'm sure you're worried and I guess I would be too.  Plus of course stupid people will tell you right to your fact that you're too thin...

Thinking of you,

Nancy S.

Good thought, but it's proximal.

I appreciate your support and thoughtful reply,

Girl, me, too!

My surgeon has told me to start eating more fat.  It's tough.  I eat what I can, but I can't eat like I did preop (and I don't ever want to again).

I'm below goal and have people telling me that I look anorexic, which I don't think about myself ... but I can see my ribs and collar bones in pics now.  I don't think I look unhealthy, but I don't want it to get to that point, either.

I'm eating butter now instead of margarine, and I use full-fat mayo and salad dressing, and I don't really pay attention to fat as far as making sure I'm eating low-fat anything.  But the simple truth is that even if I can get it in, I'm not absorbing it like preop.

So what DO we do???

I'm 17 mos postop today.  My 18-month checkup is next month.  I will hopefully still be maintaining where I am ... but now and again, another pound disappears quite by accident.
