Oprah today...WLS and teens
It was a repeat show and I wasn't impressed with her snide comments. My teen children even picked up on it and let me know they did not like the way she was acting and talking on today's show. A couple of her comments were to the affect of, "What types of foods did you get to eat? Wouldn't ANYONE lose weight just eating JELL-O?" "Let's watch Nathaniel as he goes in to have this IRREVERSIBLE surgery." It's obvious she had no true concept about how WLS really works. I was, however, very impressed by the pediatric surgeon from Texas and especially by the awesome support that she offers her patients.
You know, I got the same impression....and it was a bit odd I thought, that a person who has struggled with their own weight issues for many years, appears somewhat against WLS. But then again, it's just not her, many people I know personally are against it when I would think they would be "for" it themselves. Like they way, "It's not for everyone". I wonder if the parents of these children picked up on her vibes. Also, I didn't like how she paid so much attention and seemed to have such obvious admiration for the girl who lost it thru plain exercise and dieting, compared to the one's who had the surgery. It sort of made them look like nothing. I was fully expecting to hear the "easy way" quote.

I'm sooooo done with Oprah. I used to watch her religiously. I used to enjoy her topics and her viewpoint. But not anymore. As a matter of fact, I just deleted the request to record her show from my TIVO last week. I feel like she has her own agenda now, and only tells that side of the story. She is such an influential person to so many women in our country, and I don't like the way her opinions have been heading.
I've seen this WLS show before and I thought she was disgusting! Actually, she came across as hateful to people that have taken charge of their health, accept for the girl that lost the weight without WLS. I think it's great that she was able to do that! Definitely! But that shouldn't have to mean that those that had WLS had any less of an accomplishment!
I think Oprah doesn't really understand it all. I think she's struggled for so long with her weight, that she feels we took the easy way out. But I'd be willing to bet her weight loss struggle is not over. We've all been there. The yo-yo just keeps going. I hope that's not the case for her, as I hope for anyone going through struggles with weight. But realistically...time will tell.
Anyway...I'm done with Oprah. Not just because of this show, but it was probably the straw that broke the camel's back for me.
