Well hello to all my name is Tracy Davis and I just recently moved to North Carolina from Louisiana . I had GBS on Sept 06 and I am almost coming up on my two year mark . I am very greatful that I had this surgery because for one I didnt have the surgery to be skinny . I had the surgery because I had high blood pressure and sever diabaties . I must say the surgery did wonders because I no longer have them two medical problems. But here is my problem I know its all my fault and no one to blame for it all but I have put some of the weight back on like 20-25 pds this summer in due to us moving and living in a hotel for 30 days my husband is military so we just got to ( fort Bragg ) so I thought why not get on here and get my butt into gear to work with my body and this tool I was given because I know this surgery is a miracle for all . So here is my problem I have found I am always snacking on food that i know is not good for me at all , starting to drink more soda then water and not excerising at all. I know I can hear it now all that is bad for me but with all this stress nothing is working for me right now . I have a appt with the military doctors here in North Carolina I guess to get a local doctor here to follow me up with having this surgery and stuff but I was just hoping I can get some help here on ways to start back over freash . Meaning clean my whole system out and start back from ground one with food intake and such...where should i begin................

Tracy, Welcome!

I am not an expert - waiting for band surgery on Thursday.  But I would start with journaling.. then cut out one thing - for instance sodas and add one thing - water goal.  It is hard to make a total change overnight, so I find starting slow works well for me and seems to stick better when it comes to behavior changes.

Barb and Annie and many others will be the posters with much more than I to answer you.  Check here often.  I have found great support and information.

Welcome to the NC board, we have a good group of people if I do say so myself.  I am almost 6 years post op and put on 25lbs myself in the past couple years.  I am also starting to journal what I eat and at what time.  I found that I eat more when I'm bored and while I"m at work (I work  a 12-hour night shift), so my goal is to cut out my soda consumption and only allow myself 1 snack while I'm at work - besides my meals.  Anyway, I started doing this 2 weeks ago and I'm back on the loosers bench - thank God!  I'm trying to get back to eating the way I am supposed to and working hard to get some excersize in every day.  (I'm still working on it - ugh!)  Anyway, you're doing the right thing by identifying your problem and beginning to resolve it.  Keep a positive attitude and if I can do anything please let me know.

Good luck!!!

First of all, welcome to NC and to the NC forum. I hope that you will find it to be as warm, friendly and supportive a place as I have ... I'm also a transplant and have been warmly welcomed.

I concur that journaling is a big help. One of the things that I find that journaling my intake and activity does for me, is that I am very honest about what I am or am not doing because only I see it, I don't have to impress anyone or rise to their 'standard.' I have find that when I'm logging what I'm doing, that I honestly tend to take a more critical look at my food choices and/or my activity choices. When I log my intake, I can see the impact of the choices I'm making.

Another thing you might consider, is going to the WLS Grads Forum. It's another forum with very supportive folks. Many on that board who have had regain have decided to participate in something called the "5 day pouch test" diet that seems to help 'reset' your system so that you'll be as sensitive to sweets, fats, and volume as you were in the beginning. I've not done this, so I have no personal experience with it, but it might be worth a try.

I look forward to getting to know you.

Warmly,

Barb

Hello Tracy.  I'm pre-op so I'm here gleaning more advice than I can give right now (and this is the place to get GREAT advice!).  Just wanted to say "welcome," from another transplant as well!
