how to weigh (silly question?)
Okay, this may sound like a silly question, but I'd like to know how some of you weigh yourselves. If you're over 300 lbs (like me), most household scales just won't do. I bought some digital scales and they're totally unreliable. The reading varies 30-50 lbs every day. I don't want to spend $300 plus bucks on one of those super nice doctor's office scales that go up to 500 lbs. So, what do you do? Where do you go to weigh? The hospital? Even my own regular doctor's office scale is insufficient. They try to attach a little added weight to the scale but the result is very unreliable an unpredictable. When I go to my doctor's office now I tell them to forget it and I give them an estimate! My estimate is closer than their scale reading!! My bariatric doctor's office is an hour drive away. I need a local place to weigh. Suggestions?

My DH Used to weigh in around the upper 300's and we've used the tanita scales and found them to be pretty accurate. He now is in the lower 300's. I use a WW scale and he's been using it for over a year and he's been getting good readings. You can get either of these for somewhere between 50 and 100 dollars.
I hope that helps.

Hi Meredith,
Scalesonline.com sells all different types of scales. You can go to their website, click on the "bathroom scales" tab and browse. They have them for all different weight capacities and prices. I have been very pleased with the ones I bought from them several years ago for under $100. Mine weigh up to 400 lbs and are really very accurate. I usually weigh a few pounds less on them than at doctors' offices, but not enough to matter. (Of course, when I weigh myself at home, I weigh first thing in the morning and "buck nekkid", LOL!!!)
Best wishes,
Cathy W.
I THINK these are the closest ones to the model I bought. They have a weight capacity of 400 lbs and are on sale for $63.00:

I totally understand your dilema. Before my WLS I didn't realize how much I weighed, I had the same problem finding a scale to weigh accurately. I would guess when I went to my regular doc also. When I went to my WLS doc I used their scale (also an hour away). I was 425lbs the first time I weighed and was VERY SHOCKED! By the time I had my surgery I was 395lbs and I had to go every couple weeks for follow ups... Soon I was below 300 and could use my local doctor. That's what I had to do.
Good luck!!!
Good luck!!!

Well, I just bit the bullet and bought myself a new scale online at amazon.com. Its capacity is 440, which is more than I weigh, so it ought to be fine. (I'm 411 right now according to my last weigh-in.) Here's what I bought (I hope the link works):

I hope it's better than the last digital scale I bought!! At my school where I teach, the school nurse told me that regular household digital scales are notoriously inaccurate and undependable. **fingers crossed** The reviews on this model were very good.
