I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing with us how your personal trainer is helping you avoid future sagging and skin issues?!    Thanks!

I want to know this too! I was looking at my upper arms in the mirror last night, thinking about all the extra skin I'm going to have there. Must try to prevent this!

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

You cannot exercise away excess, saggy skin... the only way to avoid it is not having the issue in the first place. Exercise, specifically strength training, will help the appearance of excess skin (by building muscle underneath to help fill it out), but theres really no avoiding it (unless you dont become obese in the first place!). I worked out with a trainer and have pictures of my excess skin on my profile if you care to view.

My bodybuilder-wanna-be hubby and I found this article about a year ago and we loved it!  This is why I am anxious to hear what ReadyforLife's personal trainer is doing with her.

Im planning on having much of my extra skin removed not everywhere but spots that will allow me to run around my house like Lady Godiva.
If my husband walks into our bedroom I always cover up if I am undressed.
He tells me not to do that but I tell him when I am perfect I wont cover up LOL

Hey Shaunab68.  My personal trainer is helping me to tone so I wont have the saggy skin.  Now with as fast as we loose weight we can't tone quick enough.  But everything he can do to help me I'm willing to take and do.  He has me of course do cardio for 30 to 45 minutes.  He says that anything over 45 minutes fatigues the body and doesn't help.  He said it is better to push yourself for the 45 minutes then just stay at a steady pace for 1 hour.  Then after I normally walk on the treadmil for 45 minutes he startes on the toning part.  It is very hard to explain what weights he has me to.  He has me doing a lot of tricep and bicept.  He then has me do shoulder presses and then on to the legs.  Someone can help me if you know what this is...but there is a chair that has weights.  You squeeze the legs together.  He has me doing about 40 pounds for 30 reps.  He has me doing a lever row which works my back muscles.  I'm not released to do abd yet.  He has a series of exercises when that happens.  It normally takes me about 30 to 45 minutes to get through all of the weight exercies.  I do upper one day and lower the next.  Reason being is because we are suppose to exercise everyday and he believes you shoudl work all areas together every other day.  So we split them.  I will have to get the name of the exercies for you.  I honestly am just doing what I am told and dont pay attention what its called.  Sorry that I can't help you that much.  I do plan on having some plastics if they dont go back enough.  I am already got some wings.  I am okay with them.  I am proud of where I have come from.  I am wearing tank tops in public.  I am going to keep working on them.  One day at a time...one minute at a time...one pound at a time.

Thanks for your reply!    I have a really good idea from your descriptions about what it is he is doing with you.  I really agree with that article about lean body mass and would love to hear how building it now post-op works for you, so please keep me posted.  Of course, everyone is different but I bet you will have MUCH better results than you would without!

I personally already have skin trouble.    But, I am looking forward to getting back to the gym once my weight starts dropping and my confidence starts rising!    If lean body mass helps in any way, shape, or form (literally!), I'll take what I can get!
