im ashamed to say i am terrified at the thought of what to feed myself after surgery. i have this huge container of isopure that i wish i hadnt purchased. i wished i had a variety of protein to try. Iris suggested www.bariatriceating.com . im on a budget so i cant just buy all these different things.

im just curious, what did you have the first 2 weeks?

The only thing I was allowed to have was Dr. prescribed Optisource, crystal light and water!!! THATS IT!! NO FUN!!  You need to talk to your surgeon, because they should have a plan for you for the first 6 weeks!

I had a ton of Isopure too, but only used it for a few days.  It didn't agree with my pouch.  I used the protein bullets.  I drank Crystal light and water, and loved, loved, loved my sugar free jello!

Hi Melissa
I'll be on water, protein shakes and broth for a couple of weeks, but I have found a protein that I really love.  It's sold at the Vitamin Shoppe and it comes in individual packets.  The name is Jay Robb's Whey Protein and it comes in Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, and Orange Dreamsicle.  I prefer that Strawberry and Orange, but all are good...no taste of protein and each packet has 25 grams of protein and when mixed with skim a total of 33!  Two small shakes and I'm done for the day  :-)

I hated the taste of Isopure and glad that I tasted it before I bought it. I bought three big jars of protein shake mix from bariatric eating... yes they are expensive but I needed to get the protein down. I was allowed broth, protein shakes, SF popsicles and SF Jello... I was about to starve to death on day four so I ate some SF pudding.. made all the difference in the world.. Your doctor should have a diet ready for you on what he wants you to eat... best of luck to you!!

My first two weeks out I was on pureed food. My Dr. and Nut have a diet guidline for you to follow.

I drank isopure and skim milk everyday, 1 yogurt, pears, peaches, and pureed meat, string beans and carrots--cooked___all pureed and an occasional egg. Also cottage cheese.

Hello, I'm now 4 weeks post op. For my first two weeks, I was drinking Low carb Slim fast protein shakes in chocolate. Love those. I was allowed broth soups, SF jello, SF pudding, SF pop sicles.
I drink also crystal lite, and Walmart brand SF cherry drink mix.
I was making homemade soups every two days, and adding in extra water and broth. Then I woudl strain out everything and drink the broth for my meals.
My family ate soup with their dinner, I got broth.
But it passed quickly. Now I am on proteins, mostly meats, eggs, cheese, yogurts. for a few more weeks.

Band to DS

My surgeon wants us to do a clear liquid diet for the first week after surgery. I had water, apple juice, popsicles, chicken & beef broth, and jello. During the second week, we can advance to full liquids. I had mil**** cream, strained creamy soups, egg drop soup, protein shakes, yogurt, and pudding. I like GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey protein. You can buy a 1 lb bag for $15 at any GNC store. It's Week 3 and I'm on pureed foods now. Hooray!

Hope this helps!

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

I was on a clear liquid diet for the first 2 weeks, so I had SF popcicles, broth, strained chicken noodle soup, crystal ligh****er, sugar free frozen ice, etc.  But the VERY BEST thing I did was to use the New Whey protein bullets mixed in with the crystal light - I started getting over 80 grams of protein in from the time I came home from surgery - I know it helped me heal faster and helped me have more energy, plus I go****er in along with it.
