Hi from New Member in Asheville
If you'd like to visit my website, see www.flutestar.com . I am a flutist and have my own business repairing flutes and piccolos.
I need to lose about half my body weight. I've carried this weight all my life, and now at the age of 54, my older husband (age 69) has Parkinson's and I am his caregiver. I find this so stressful that I wonder if I am headed for a heart attack, like my father and sister. The thought of being "prettier" appeals to me, but the thought of living a long, healthy life seems much more important now.
Glad to find this forum,
Nancy
This board has been a great resource for me and I feel that I am getting to know these people. I am going to Hickory also and plan to get the band. I am 54 and am so miserable with this extra weight. I think we all have the same wants as you - to be healthier, prettier, and live longer to enjoy our families.
Glad to meet you...

We live in Black Mountain and hubby works off Patton Avenue in Asheville, not too far from you.

I'm sorry to hear your husband has Parkinson's and truly admire you for being his caregiver. Getting healthy will make it so much easier for you I'm sure.
Welcome to the forum! Look forward to hopefully taking this journey with you!

Hi Nancy,
I'd like to welcome you to the OH NC Forum. I'm proud to say that I think it's one of the nicest, most supportive forums on OH. I hope that you will find the warmth, support, friendship and information that I have enjoyed here and if there is anything I can do to help, please do let me know.
I'm sorry to hear of your husband's diagnosis. I can only imagine how physically and emotionally draining it must be to be the primary caregiver to one suffering the ravages of Parkinson's.
I am 50 yrs old and have lost nearly half my pre-surgery weight ... or about as much as small woman would weigh. I can't tell you how significantly it has improved my health and quality of life. I would do it again in a heartbeat. As a matter of a fact, we are in the process of having my husband go through WLS himself and I look forward to his experiencing like health and quality of life benefits. I can hardly wait!
I look forward to getting to know you as you make this incredible, life-changing journey.
Wishing you all the best,
Barb

Glad to meet you and welcome. I too need to lose at least half of me. That would be lighter than I have been in 37 years! I have decided that is long enough. Scheduled for Aug 12!
You will find that the folks here are very warm and open. I have only been a member for a short time myself and lurked in the background just reading and learning. Everyone has been so nice.
Again welcome,
Vera
Hey Nancy:
You aren't the only one that needed to lose half your body wt. I had RNY in mid February. My starting wt was 328 and I am now down to 240 with a goal of 140. I am 53 years old and feel awesome. I am off my high bp meds and it is nice and low. I was on Pepcid for GERD and am about ready to get rid of those pills also. It is amazing what a new life this surgery has given me. The only complication I had was very minor when my thyroid went to low and I didn't lose any wt for a month. They are not sure if surgery or menopause caused that but with synthroid, that has balanced itself out.
Good luck on this journey. Welcome to the NC OH family. If you have any questions, just ask away!

I am also a Newbie and I need to lose half my body size. I am in Walnut Cove and I am going to have my surgery with Dr Fernandez at WFU NC Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, hopefully in 3-4 weeks. Good Luck to you, don't do like I did and waste too much time researching. I talked myself in and out of surgery a couple of times before I buckled down and found a doctor. Hope to talk to you later!
Tracy
It sounds like your making a wise choice in exploring your WLS options. The surgery could benefit both you and your husband. Being healthier would certainly make providing care for your husband much easier.
Welcome and ask any questions you'd like.......
