Support Groups

I am looking for a support group near China Grove, NC. I am trying to get approval from my insurance for gastric bypass, I was denied the first time and I am waiting for answer to my appeal. My doctor is Dr. Pirrello at Carolinas weight loss surgery. Really could use a friend. I had a profile and started making friends when I first started this journey but when I got denied I got depressed and deleted it. I am so sorry I did that because now I realize just how much I need support. And I know I have to fight for what I know I need for my health. Please help if you can.

I live in China Grove and go to Dr. Bauman.  If you want to talk, feel free to contact me.  I can be reached at 704-796-1381.  I was thinking of starting a support group to meet at my shop in Cloverleaf Plaza in Kannapolis, but I wasn't sure if I would have any support.

Hi Barbara,

I have to say that I started the group that's here in Raleigh because I needed support. I wasn't sure that anyone would come ... last month we had about 40 people that came! Last weekend Melinda did the first support group meeting in Greenville and had a fantastic turnout with about 25 people ... When I started this, maybe 4 to 6 would come and it grew over time. I think that there is a much bigger need for support than you might think, so go for it!

Hey Babara....I live in Huntersville and if you had weekend support groups, I would be there.   Bet you would also get ppl from Charlotte.

Thank you for your reply, sorry it toke me so long to reply, it sounds like a great idea, I can tell you that anyone overweight and looking into weight loss surgery needs all the support they can get. Do you belong to the YMCA? I thought maybe since you live in China Grove we could meet and walk together or do other exercises. Whatever you decide i would support you and even if I don't get approved I'm not giving up, I may have to wait a year or two but I am not giving up and I would still like to have a friend to walk with or just help each other on this weight loss journey.

I can't help you with a support group.  I am close to the coast. But I can be a friend!

I finally have a date for surgery and know how stressed you can be waiting for approval.

Thank you for your reply and friendship, I will send you prayers and support too, say a prayer for me I should be hearing from my appeal within the next week or so but even if I get denied I am not stopping there even if it takes me a year or two, so I will need all the support I can get. I hate being over weight, theres so much you can't do and just don't feel like doing. I feel like I'm missing out on so much of life and I'm so tried of being so out of breathe and sleepy all the time. I will try to keep in touch.

Be strong and hang in there! This is not an easy journey for everyone but if you truly want it...Stay strong and keep posting! We'll help all we can. I hope you are able to join a support group by you, does you Dr. offer one? Even if you were denied I'm sure they would not mind you joining while you go through this stage.

I have Dr. B which is at the same office of Dr. P. I am from the pfieffer area which is only about 15 min from China Grove. Watch the board some meet in concord and Charlotte.  I went to one had enjoyed meeting others.The next support meeting at Northeast I think is next Tues. at 6:30. The nut from Dr. B and Dr. P office conducts it. I am always game to meet other people if someone puts a meet together.
