vitamins & supplements

I just read Jami Faye's post on iron, but I am wondering about which vitamins should I buy.  I am sure I will be advised when I go to the surgeon appt, but wanted to go ahead and get someting started.  For me, I have to get into the habit and sometime it takes me a long time !  Bad habits, I can pick up over night LOL.

It really depends on the surgeon.

If you are looking for something just to start getting in the habit, pick up a general multivite for women and some citrical (petites are fine).  If you started on the bariatric chewables, you'll spend more money on something you don't necessarily need right now.

If it were me, I'd take 1 multivite and at least 2 calciums (depending on dosage) throughout the day.  So if you take 3 pills, spread them out instead of taking them all at once.  Post op, you'll probably be doing the same thing with whatever supplements you'll be on, so getting in the habit now will be helpful, even if you change your supplementation.

Thank you Andrea.  I just know that I need to get started with something.  Does anyone use the chewable calcium supplements that tast like little candies?
Is that okay for banders?

I would think those would be fine.. but I have no real basis for that info other than things I've picked up over the years.  Just be sure you are getting 1200mg of calcium a day through supplements, whichever one you take.

I had RNY but I use the chewable calcium and it does just fine, I am a chocoholic so it helps me get through the day....

Since you are getting the band you may require different things than us RNYers/DSers - I know there are multi specifically designed for band patients - Southeast Bariatrics sells them and they come from Bariatric Advantage, not sure of other makers but Im sure there are more.
As for calcium I dont know if you are ok to take any form because us RNYers have to take calcium citrate - I suggest posting to the lap band forum and see what those people are taking.
