Chewable Calcium Citrate 400 mg & Lean Dessert protein question?

I am switching from Rolaids to Chewable Calcium Citrate which i ordered from Vitalady per the recommendation of you wonderful ppl.   Thought you all had said to take 3 per day but since i am senile half the time....don't remember.    Is 3 a day the right amount?

I also bought Lean Dessert protein samples.   Info rec'd with them said to mix with water but that sounds gross?  Do you mix them with water or skim milk?  I remember someone said Harris Teeter has Milk product with only 45 calories per cup so figure since shake is 130 cal, i may try that.   Just looking for all of your expertise.

Thanks, Pam

Hi Pam,
Good decision to switch to cal citrate.  Yes, I would say 3 a day would be the minimum number you would want to take.  Also make sure you are taking plenty (PLENTY) of Vit D3 and you should probably be taking magnesium citrate as well.

Michele (VitaLady) is an incredible source of sound information.  Never hesitate to ask for her recommendations.

If you want to keep a lo-carb perspective on your eating habits, you might want to use jus****er and perhaps a glob of heavy cream if you prefer something milkier.  Milk will just add sugars (lactose) and of course carbs.

Thanks for the info.   I don't take any Vit D3 but figure i live outside so get enough D from the sun for now.   My doc and nut didn't say anything about magnesium either...wonder why?

Robin of Fort Mill posted about Calorie Countdown milk which is only 45 calories and still has all the protein so was thinking of trying that with the shake which would bring to 175 calories so not bad for breakfast for 28 g of protein.

Thanks again, Pam

Vit D helps you absorb calcium - a lot of cali****uppliments already contain vit D, if you bought one that does not then you need to buy a suppliment to take with the calcium - I believe vitalady reccomends a powdered vit d so you will want to buy that from her as well.
I dont need to take the magnesium either- keep in mind with different amounts bypassed different nutrients are suppliments - since DrM/DrL do proximal bypasses we tend not to require as much as others. Either way I would address with them and keep an eye on it, many people (non-WLS) have magnesium deficienice because of poor diet... magnesium also helps with calcium absorption as well so you may want to check with vitalayd on that as well.

Psst Pam guess what I use 1% lactaid because since surgery I have discovered I am lactose intolerant (sp) and Bubbles used to have a hard time with milk and protien shakes.
With the help of Lotawoman and our talks we found out we do great with lactaid milk.
Last night I froze the protien shake the coconut candy bar one and put heavy whipped cream on top oh my it was yummy.
As far as calcium goes I buy the calcium chews from Walmart and I have three a day.

Did you mix with water or lactaid?   Isn't the heavy whipping cream fattening too tho?  I am confused trying new things..lol.

Thanks, Pam

p.s.  how did the tubing go?

Just got back from tubing and posted pics we just finished eatting some great ribs lee cooked on the grill.
I know I ate way to fast and am trying to decide if I need to help myself out.
I mix with lactaid and put about two tablespoons on top of the frozen shake.
I bought the whipped cream in the can.
It reads 15 calories per serving 1.5 grams of fat and 1 gram of carbs and 1 gram of sugar.
I am an avid label reader and now that I am recording my intake it is helping me see things in a different light.

RNY patients need a minimum (note: minimum) of 1500mg of supplemented calcium per day.  Not knowing how many are in the tablets, go from there.  And yes, you *really* need to supplement D.  Being outside only gives you 10,000 iu, and it's only in the first 30 minutes.  I was taking D and my numbers *tanked* and now must take massive D doses to save my bones.  Please, take some D other than whats in your calcium -- don't make the same bone-headed mistakes I've made.

I mix my dessert protein with straight ice cold water.. 4oz to be exact.  The samples from vitalady are 1.5 scoops and I only use 1 scoop.. but ask any of the people who tried it yesterday -- water tastes just great with that protein and doesn't add any extra calories.

I don't take vitamin D at the moment.  Mostly cause my labs in July came back with above normal marks for Vit D. and everything else was perfect for An RNY patient as a matter of fact according to my protein levels you'd think nothing was ever changed in my system.  But my Vit D was attributed to alot of sun and Yes....the terrible tanning bed.  Why my protein was level was up there to must be attributed to alot of coffee creamer LOL!  Oh well I can't complain.

Keep in mind that our bodies keep a store of several vitamins and nutrients for quite a while.

My labs were fine.. but then they went downhill very quickly.  My D dropped to the 20's, and we should be around 100.

Just be aware that your labs might be fine today, but not so much in a few months.
