A month of irony...
In just one month...
Ironic: That my husband's place of employment would decide to switch health insurance companies, have us worried that we may need to shop around for our own (due to their choice of new coverage), then ultimately they go with BCBSNC.
Ironic: That right before our oldest daughter is going to be automatically taken off of our new insurance policy, she has a severe auto accident complete with ambulance, ER, then major surgery just DAYS before the old policy expires.
Ironic: That the night of our daughter's surgery, I visit with one of her friends who tells me her mother just had WLS and is doing FABULOUS.
Ironic: That I hadn't seen my daughter's friend's mother in probably a year or more, and that very week, after seeing her daughter at the hospital, I run into her at the softball field. Got to see how GREAT she looks (-60 lbs. in 3 mos.!) and talk with her about her journey.
Ironic: That, after all of this, I have my yearly physical and, when talking to my dr. about my sciatica and stomach "apron", she advises me to look into the very program that my daughter's friend's mother was just telling me about day's before!
Ironic: That, upon delving into the possibility of weight loss help through the local program, I find that it is not in our network and is unaffordable, BUT that there IS a BCBSNC Bariatric Center of Excellence in Hickory that IS in our network, is financially manageable, is just an hour away...it seems perfect! I honestly don't think our old insurance policy even covered wls.
Ironic: That my blood test results from my yearly physical are back and, after years of testing to see if it could be a link to my weight gain, my thyroid tested high this time. I am so relieved to hear, via the OH forums, that this shouldn't have any impact on my pursual of wls. I meet with my PCP tomorrow about medication.
Can you believe, I know I'm forgetting one or two more? Some things are just meant to happen.
Sounds like things are falling right into place.
I have BCBS of NC and am going to Hickory Surgical - they told me since they are a Center of Excellence, that it is just a matter of sending in the proper letters and the approval is done - just like that. I am still waiting for an appt with the surgeon. The wait time is torturous when you are as impatient as I am. LOL

Hey Shauna:
Everything happens for a reason even though we sometimes don't know the reason. My thyroid is also hypo which happened since surgery so be glad they can get you regulated before surgery. How long ago were they supposed to send you the package? Wouldn't seem to take a day or 2 but as you can tell, i am also an inpatient person. I would wait a week from the day they call you and if you don't have it, call again.
Take care, Pam
