Thyroid question...

I got my blood test results back today and it says that I am to schedule an appointment to discuss my thyroid level (TSH 4.83)  and the need for medication.  I have been tested many times for a connection between my weight gain and my thyroid, but it has never shown anything but normal.  Now here I am contemplating WLS and it shows abnormal.  Will this affect anything?

When I had my bloodwork done my TSH level was7.4. Its not very high at all but my doc said I need a low dose of medication to bring it down a little more.  I just had to go back to the doc after a month or so and have more bloodwork drawn saying I had normal thyroid levels.  I was approved for surgery a few weeks ago.

Your thyroid will not affect your surgery!! I had a partial thyroidectomy in 1999 when I was pregnant with my son and had my surgery 4 months ago and no problems at all. If anything you will be put on Synthroid to get your levels back to normal!! Best of luck to you!!

Phew!  I was so afraid that they would tell me I need to try to lose weight on thyroid medication before accepting me for wls.  I think I would cry!  I see my PCP for thyroid medication tomorrow.  Hopefully, since the number isn't very high at all, it will be easy to correct.  Thanks so much for your replies!  :)
