Hey ya'll!!   I hope you're doing well!  I've been working a ton of overtime  (32 hours last pay period and so far 24 this pay period - ugh!), so haven't been on much lately, I bounce in and lurk around and send a comment or two but that's about it... so sorry if this is a recent repeat...   I'm tired of the same ol' snacks over and over and need some quick and easy ideas...  Preferrably things I don't have to keep cold or warm up (sometimes it's hard to get to the kitchen during work)... Anyway, thanks in advance for any ideas.  I have been searching various websites but nothing is jumping out at me that is good for us... (((Hugs)))

Sheryl, I love Kashi granola bars (although they're not especially high in protein.) Have you tried the Ostrim sticks?  I tried them at the last Raleigh get-together.  I don't remember who brought them, but whoever it is...I love you!!!  :)  They come in original, peppered, bbq and teriyaki.  They're beef/ostrich sticks and taste just like a slim jim.  They're not super-cheap, but they're worth it.  Tasty, super transportable, and 14 grams of protein per stick with only 80 calories.  I bought mine on Amazon.com.   I also really like beef jerky.  Same basic idea as the Ostrim sticks, but easier to find.  You just have to chew, chew and chew some more.  Make sure to read the label.  Some are high in sugar, but some are perfect!  I like Pemmican the best, because the jerky is high quality meat and somewhat soft.

Hey Deb,

Sorry for the delay, was working...ugh!!!!  I do eat beef jerky and love it, gonna have to look for the Ostrim Sticks, they sound yummy.  I do like the Kashi granola bars but not too often...  Today I ate a cranberry Kashi bar and it was yummy too!  Thanks for the idea!

WOW 32 hours of overtime -- I would love to see that on my paycheck  :) Back to the snack attack question at hand, here are some thing I keep at my desk for emergencys: jar of peanut butter , even if I just nibble a teaspoon here and there it is the perfect nibble to have. crackers , the whole wheat ones , also I keep packs of Lance crackers . also the the cheese and crackers pack things are good. tuna ... I keep cans of tuna and will pop open one when I don't have time for a microwave heat up. I also try to fill up a bowl of fruit on my desk , I have peaches and apples right now.  It is hard sometimes to keep meals interesting ... hope these help. Good luck

Hey girl... Yeah that paycheck was nice but I didn't get to spend much time with Rex, so it was a tradeoff... this has already been a crazy OT week too... hopefully we'll get these new hires trained so I can take a day or 2 off... whew!!!!!

I love peanut butter and do keep it at work and here at the house.  I'm trying to stay away (within reason) from carbs because I'm trying to loose weight again and they're one of my triggers, but I do love the Lance peanut butterr crackers too...  I do fruit too (Rex works in the produce department so we're never without fruit and veggies)...   I haven't had much tuna, but will try it again soon now that you reminded me...

Thanks!!

Hi Sheryl, Im not a regular on your board, since I live in MO but was lurking around on the NC board and wondering if there are any support groups in the Asheville area. I will be out there on a trip in October and thought I would give it a shot just to see how others do thier meetings. Ours is very informal and helpful and fun and friendly. But kinda wanted to get some new ideas and input from others.   What kind of snack are you looking for?  My sis makes something she calls protien balls. She uses her protien powder, peanut butter and quick cook oats. If this sounds good to you, let me know and I will send the recipe on its way..you can email me at [email protected] Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hi there!  Welcome to our board, even as a lurker... lol!  I will look up those protein balls, they sound good.  Our support group is in the Jacksonville / Wilmington area since we're in Eastern NC, but I know there are other support groups so hopefully someone will respond to you about those groups.   Thanks for the post!  Take care and come visit any time!

Sugar,

No problem, I'm just sorry it took so long to get back to you. We have a monthly get together but don't have one planned as of yet.  We get together and have more of a fellowship than anything but it helps anyway, we compare notes, ideas and just WLS stories in general.  Shalotte is about 2 hours from us but if you're ever in the area please send me a message and we can sure get a few people together at least.  Have you posted and asked if there is a support group meeting in the Ashville area?  I have only been here for 3 years so I don't even know what's near Ashville yet.. ugh!

Anyway, take care and send me a message any time!

As Deb mentioned, I like jerky. I also like nuts for their portability. Another possibility would be cheese cubes, slices, sticks.

We've missed you, but I'm glad you pop in now and then. Hope those extra hours come in handy.
