holy cow!!!! is this really happening??????

Im thru with my pre-op appts. I just recieved a phone call from Southern Surgical and my consult with Dr MacDonald is next tuesday @ 9:30 am!!!! They will give me my surgery date then---whooooooohooooooo.  She said she doesnt  see a problem with my insurance ( BSCBS) approving the surgery. But when i reminded her of my borderline BMI, she then said they will still schedule the surgery and if my insurance doesnt go thru then they will just cancel. My surgery will be scheduled  in August pending insurance approval. Im trying not to build this up... but im soooooo excited. Anyway- thanks for listening !! --Melissa

IF YOU DONT MIND ME ASKING, WHAT IS YOUR APPT FOR? how in the world will he see us both?

Actuallly mine is at 9 not 9:30. (sorry if I scared you). This is my last appointment prior ot surgery. I thought I had finished everything up so when I called with insurance approval she told me he liked to see his patients at about a month prior to surgery - I'm thinking it's to order up any lab work, make sure I know to start Adkins and what have you.  I can't wait - I've got 30 days until surgery on 8-8-8. I know you can't wait to get your surgery scheduled. I'm tying up all of my loose ends around the house and at work. I've noticed I'm a lot more introspective here lately. I've chosen to do this so I can live life to the fullest and not have any excuses. I am so ready for this. Would any of Dr. Mac's postops like to chime in here and let us know what to expect at our appointments next week? - Iris

Congrats on your appt time, Melissa! I'm so happy for you! As for both being scheduled together-- be prepared, you will wait. That is the ONLY  problem I have with SS... the wait time!!! I have never understood why they will schedule several people at the same time...

Both of you go in with your questions and be prepared. After waiting, you will probably only see him for about 15-20 minutes if that. Don't get me wrong, he'll answer all your questions, but it will go so fast! Either way, you are both on your way to your new life! I'm so happy for both of you! Keep us posted!!! Edited to add a bit more: Bascially, this appointment is to tell you/make sure you are aware of the preop diet, talk a bit about how surgery will go, some about post op (this is where your caregiver will go with you) and then schedule your surgery date (in Melissa's case)... If possible, you can go to the Patient Rep (can't remember name of it) to get your pre-op labs and other testing done for the surgery. We did this for James and it was all done and over... Most of it has to be done 30 days or so prior to surgery. They will also test you for the Staph infection--Mersa (sp?)... sometimes that can take a while (first come, first see) or you can call and make an appt.  I've walked in both times and was seen in a few hours... depending on the tests you need.  I think that's about it though-- happy for both of you!

You are very welcome. At this point, I think we are ok for the 26th. Barb has added me to meet-up (Thanks, Barb!) and I'm going to post the information here as soon as I get it up and running so people can RSVP. I can't believe it's only a couple weeks away! :)

MELISSA!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm jumping up and down with joy for you!!!   I am so happy for you.  Things are really falling into place for you now.  August is just around the corner and will be here before you know it!   WHOO HOO!
