Medical Emergencies
I do not have one, but I want to get one. I think we SHOULD have them. Especially if you have an allergy, but as bypass patients if you should have to go to the ER, you really don't want an ER doc or nurse putting an NG tube into your pouch -- and neither does Dr. Bauman want them to do that to us!
There is a patient at Dr. Bauman's office who actually makes them. Diane Stout has her business cards and samples. They're very inexpensive.

I wear one every day. I got the acutal Medic Alert and have the emergency cards, etc. The braclets are not expensive. I have 4, 3 are stainless w/different colored emblems and 1 is the crystal bead braclet. I believe the braclets are like $10.00 and the beaded one was $25.00 or so. But you do have to factor in the Medic Alert Membership. But with the 800 number that emergency personnel call and the info that can be added to your file-I think it's worth it.

I wear one. It says "Diprovan Allergy, Gastric Bypass, No Blind NG Tube". I bought a pretty one from creativemedicalid.com. I would be wearing one just for the Diprovan Allergy (I go into full anaphylactic shock), regardless of the GB, but I do it for both.
I did ask an EMT if they would know to look for the Medic alert bracelet that looks like mine and he said yes. So hopefully it'll get seen. Actually, hopefull it'll never be needed.
Take care.
Ellen
