Will this ever get any better?
I am new here and my first day of posting got messed up, so now to catch up. I am a patient of CWLS and my surgeon is Dr. Roc Bauman. The process from my first appointment to the day of surgery was four months and three days to the day. My insurance is BCBS and once everything was in and reviewed by Dr. Bauman, actual approval was within two days.
The RNY banded surgery was on 25 June and went well, except that Dr. Bauman was not able to place the Fobi band. No big deal. I came home on 27 June and began trying to get down 60 grams of protein. Not really a problem except that nothing was really wanting to stay completely down. On top of that, I was so bloated and swollen from gas!!! That is what was and is sooooooooooo painful! At any rate, By Sunday Morning I couldn't hang in there any more and called the Doc. Long story short, a portion of bowel had kinked and was not letting anything pass my stomach.
Dr. Bauman said it was an easy fix, laporoscopically. So, back for more stomach disdending gas that tortures my body relentlessly. I wake to find not only my holes from the laporoscopic procedure, but that another problem arose so the procedure was converted to open! I finally came home today.
This has been an awful experience as far as the surgery goes and I am really wondering if it is going to be worth it all. It has to right? I mean the surgery is over with now (hopefully) so my body can only get better, right? I am battling swelling from IV's, swelling from gas, swelling from being cut open, drainage from the wounds, body temps that fluctuate 2 to 3 degrees all day and night, tremendous swelling in my abdomen, and pain
My hospital experiences will be for another post. Right now I feel like so much is out of whack that I will never get any control back. Besides, almost one week has passed and I need to be getting ready to return to work, not just barely walking.

I am so sorry to hear about your problems! Hopefully, all of those are behind you and you will feel better soon! Hope you have at least a few more weeks to recover before having to head back to work. When i first had my surgery I did protein bullets with 42 g of protein in 3 ounces. Would drink half earlier in the day and half later. I know they helped me a lot and I still use them.
Good luck and please keep us posted, Pam
So sorry you are having a hard time. It will get better and you will be glad soon. I had to be done open also but I was 99% sure that was the proceedure I would have. My experience had been a good one but not all wls goes as smooth as mine has so far. Please don't despare.... it will get better and Dr. B is a very compitent surgen. You are in good hands. I have notice on the forum, that his patients have very few complications. But there is always a chance of them. With my surgery done open and the work load of my job I was out of work for 6 weeks. He will not send you back bere you are ready. Take care and don't give up.
God Bless
Myrtis
It does get better. Fortunately, not everyone has complications and I'm so sorry this happened in your case. Your body has been through so much that you are, without a doubt, uncomfortable right now and who could blame you? As the weeks pass, it will improve. Keep the faith.

Wow, you've had a rough start! I'm sorry to hear about that. It's not an easy surgery, and you have even more to deal with, but it will get better! Soon you'll be telling other new post-ops how "worth it" it is! :)
Don't rush the getting back to work thing either. You've had some major surgeries, and your body has a lot of healing to do. It took me a good 4 weeks before I started feeling normal again, and I didn't have complications to contend with.
Follow your Doc's directions and things will improve. Walk and sip, walk and sip. Good luck, and welcome to the loser's bench!
