Quick update on me (if anyone gives a flip..)

I've been having faint spells of late.  It started a few weeks ago, but I was dismissing the feelings as low sugars (I'm a reactive hypoglycemic) after excercising.  Then I passed out at my neuro's with a super sugar (hey, 97 for me is spectacular).  Mentioned this in passing to my PCP and she ordered a cards eval. Cards eval told me that I probably had this one condition and to confirm it, we'd need a tilt table study. If noone knows what this silent hell is, let me share.  They place you on a table (with your shoes on) and strap you down.  Then they stand you completely upright and you don't move.  They check bp every 2 minutes and HR continuously.  If, after 30 minutes, you don't have a reaction, they give meds to make your HR go up, which lowers your BP.  If you don't have a reaction with meds after 15 min, the test is negative.  If you need meds, it's positive, but not a strong positive. Ok.  Back to the long-winded story. I was always an over-achiever.  I passed out at 12 minutes.  Of course, I started feeling icky as soon as they did this (because you move upright quickly).  I was never one to want help with anything, and so my body decided not to use any medication to pass right on out. And hey, if you have an opportunity to pass out while strapped to a table?  Really, pass on it. So the verdict?  I now have neurocardiogenic syncope.  I was told to eat more salt, drink lots of fluids (hell, I'm at 120oz already) and take 2 miracle pills a day.  I plan on calling my neuro (under the advice from another PA) to check and see what they say about said miracle pill.  This PA is a bit concerned with the med for whatever reason (still waiting).. but whatever. I've read somewhere that this is becoming more common in people who lose large amounts of weight (whether surgical or not).. and thus will be something I plan to research alot more on (can we say possible thesis?).  I know two people on the boards that have it, and hey, I wasn't even advertising it at all.  In any case, if something like this happens.. get thee to a cards doc, k?

Oh Crap - sounds very rough. Sorry you've had to go through it but maybe - just maybe the miracle pills will regulate it.  - Iris

Andrea,

I understand that while rarely serious on it's own, it can very problematic and disruptive. I can only imagine who disturbing this must be, but I hope that the medications will help.

Yeah, it's not cool by any means.  It mostly comes out when I'm doing weight training (which, yeah, is another research thing), but has happened at other times.

Yikes Andrea, it sounds pretty scary.  Although your commentary on the tilt test did have me laughing.  Let us know what you find out with your research and what ends up happenning with the miracle pill! Good luck!

If you thought that was funny, go read my recounting over on the R&R board.  Just don't be drinking anything while reading. Fair warning and all.

Some people get this just from getting older too. I am glad you got it checked out. I know you may not like having to go through a bunch of test especially when you have little ones to take care of. I know I didn't. Knowing what it is helps in dealing with it.
