It's so good to be back home!
I posted this yesterday -- I meant to post it here, but I posted it in the main forum by mistake! And an update - besides the 4 lbs since Thursday, I lost 3.5 more pounds since yesterday!

Well, I'm back home. And I was so unprepared for the whole hospital experience. First of all, have never had any kind of surgery before, so I didn't know how rough it was going to be coming out from the anesthesia. Then, it was a Friday night and PCMH is a level 4 trauma center, so there were all kinds of stabbings and major car accidents coming in, so I was stuck in recovery for a full 24 hours before I could get a bed on the floor. And I thought I would die before I got a swallow of something to ease my sore throat and parched mouth and lips. And I'm pretty sure I hadn't heard anybody mention anything about the diarrhea.
But things are getting much better now. I don't really have much abdominal pain at all. I do have a headache that won't go away. All I want to do is sleep. But I wanted to take the time to check in with all of you here. And I'm down 4 lbs already -- Yay!

Mel,
Welcome to the loser's bench. Be sure to walk, walk, walk and sip, sip, sip. It's truly the cure to all that ails during the first few weeks.

I too recently had surgery and was unprepared for the whole surgical experience. I had my surgery in Pinehurst. Wonderful hospital and staff. I also have had headaches alot. Glad to hear I am not alone. I have lost 9 lbs. since 6/23. I am sleepy alot also.
Good luck on your recovery and like the others said sip sip and walk walk.
I do have to clarify, for the sake of anyone having their surgery at Pitt, that even though it wasn't an ideal experience, there is not one person on the staff that I could say anything negative about. Everyone was wonderful. As bad as it was being in PACU all day Saturday, the nurse I had there was an angel and helped ,ake the best of a sucky situation. When I finally got a room on the 4th floor, both of my nurses ended up being from my hometown, and I live 2 hours away from Greenville -- what are the odds of that! And not only that, my night shift nurse is the daughter of my next-door neighbor! So she'll get to check in on me when she comes home to visit her folks, and I'll get to follow up with her too, since she's have surgery in September. I just thought that was such a God thing!
