IUD Question

Ok so I went and had the new Mirinia(sp?) IUD done.  Needless to say I am back down 4 pounds.  No more pills.  I can't wait to see how this month goes to see if it was indeed my pills that started my appetite back and of course that weight gain.  Question though is I had this done this past monday which should of been my last day on my period, it hurt like hell to have done becuase my cervix was alright closed tightly back up.  Apparently it is the only thing extremely tight these days LOL and they had to dialate it which hurt like HELL!!!  Its been 18 years since the last child so I got a refresher on breathing techniques, Lamaz.  The doc had a time forceing it to dialate enough to get the thing in,  oh should I say he had this metal thing to measure how deep my uterus is so they can figure how far to insert the IUD.  Swear it felt like it was almost to my boobs.  Than they installed it and he said it would cramp alittle.  Well men have no concept of what cramp means.  Yes it was like labor for me and made me dizzy.  It hurt for a few days but now I am still having enough bleeding to have to where a panty liner everyday.  FOr those of you who have had this done how long will this part go on?  My sister in-laws went for months but her had come out at sometime later and here she had ovarion cysts which cause her to have things remove.  This is when they found out the thing was gone.  I hope I do not have to spend the summer with panty liners and just enough blood to have to use tampons since I do live to the beach and would like to get in the water.  I am also wondering if because he had to dialate me if it hasn't closed back up hence the bleeding, could it lead to infection if I got in the water.  Being a woman is so.....well

Did you have the bleeding with it also?

Yup.  Of course, paragard is *known* for heavy bleeding, so I didn't really mention it. I *hate* having 7-10 day heavy periods.  But regular BC throws my headaches into high gear.

I had the Mirena IUD put in at my 6wk post-op (c-section birth of twins) and well to be honest with you I didn't feel pain (LOL..... I had too many other pains) and bled only for a few days and that was the last time I bled...... and here it is 3years later. I *heart*  my IUD

Can anyone tell me what the advantages of the Mirena would be? I have the paraguard and have to take it out this year and put in a new one. doctor said we just can take it out and put the new one right in. I was just wondering what the differences are between the two. I believe the Mirena has hormones...is there an advantage of those? I guess i need to research. Lisa

for me I just took the advise of my OB, he preferred Mirena over any other IUD.  I knew from past I didnt want pills, the shot helped me gain 150 lbs or so, the patch was annoying and I didn't want to cut out all possibilities of more kids (I already have 4 I must be insane).

I love the fact Mirena eliminated my period..... 3 years not even a spotting.

The way I understand it is made of some sorta plastic, which means it does not show up on scans to check if it is there still, and has a low does hormon that is good for 5 years.  I will be 46 in a few weeks and 5 years will hopefully get me through the change I hope.  Alot of people suposivivly don't have periods or heavy ones with it though it can be the opposit for a few.  I just noticed though when I went back on my pills my weight loss slowed and only happened around my period than I went off them out of laziness mostly and I started losing again really good and my cravings stopped.  But when I went back on them last month I went up 5 pounds in a few days and I started feeling hungrey again.  About that time I went into for my year anniversary and my doc said most likely it was the pill.  It wasn't unusual.  Also since i have been losing this weight I started having good cramping and strong munchies and very sore boobs at least the week before my period starts to at least the second day than it was like someone gave me a huge diuretic and I'd drop a few pounds.  So I am now trying this.  I just hope I am not going to be spotting like this the whole summer!
