Hey my 6 month blood work came back good. I guess I'm doing ok with the vitamins. Dr. B did tell me he wants me to take 2 Centrum silvers a day instead of 1. I is to build me up before the hernia surgery .....I guess. At least that is waht I was led to believe. Going to beach Sunday.  Yeeee Haaaaa! Myrtis

Myrtis,

Congratulations on your positive lab results. I think that doing what we need to do to keep those where they need to be is going to be really important.

My program at Duke has had me on 2 Centrum Silver's all along and have upped my calcium citrate w/D and magnesium from 2 600 mg, to 3 per day because of some mounting research that indicates that we need about 1600 to 1800 mgs of calcium a day for good bone health. I'm wondering if your new dosage of the Centrum Silver is temporary or if they will have you maintain that dosage in the long run.

Congratulations again on the great news!

Barb

I'm glad that your blood work came back good!  Hope you enjoy the beach.  I almost feel that I should move away from the beach so I'm forced to take time off to go.  I don't know about the others that live at the beach but I only get to the beach about twice a year if I am lucky.  It might have to do with the fact that I'm always working!

I take centrum silver, B complex, and calcium citrate by demand, I also take by choice. B-12, D-3, biotin and when I get leg cramps potassium.  Sounds like a lot. Myrtis

Yay!!!  I think they have us on a wonderful supplement program.  My labs were great at 1 year -- at 6 months I think the only things I had low were the B1 and vitamin D, and the D was low preop.  By 1 year, my vitamin D level was perfectly normal (along with everything else).  My B12 level is actually high, and I don't know why.  Guess it's the B complex I take?  They said it was nothing to worry about.  Hope you have a GREAT time at the beach.  I'm jealous.  I want to take some time off and go some place.  I really need a vacation.  My husband is in nursing school full time and working full time, I'm working full time, and we never see each other.  I think I may ask for some time off, just a week.  I took one week earlier this year and didn't go anywhere, but it was a nice refresher.  Sometimes we just need that!

Just a note.. we keep a store of b-12.. so a deficiency can take some time to manifest itself.  Also, high doses of folic acid can mask a b-12 deficiency (false readings on labs). I'm not saying you are or aren't.  Just sharing info.  :-)

I hope i'm ok ...I began taking B-12 probably a year before wls...just for energy and I think it helped. I take a b complex and an  B-12 also. Maybe that has helped. Thanks for the info. I hope a defiency dose not show up on my 1 yr  blood test. Myrtis
