I had the same problem. I did not like the unjury when I mixed it full strength. But I found if I mixed about 1/3 packet with milk and lots of ice cubes in a blender to an Icee consistancy I was okay with it. I used water and ice with the strawberry.  It works best to put the powder and liquid in first and add ice then blend. My blender is a Hamilton Beach wave action blender. I added some frozen banana and strawberries to the unflavored and it was all right also. I really couldn't handle the taste full strength.

Keep in mind the carnation isnt sugar free - its no sugar added.. I know you had lapband and dont know what your guidelines are regarding sugar but 1 packet has 7g... a serving of milk typically has 12 so thats 19g sugar per serving. IMO you are better off to keep trying the protein and find one you like :-)  Personally I tried 20 pre-op, narrowed down to about 7, tried them again post-op and dumepd all but 1... since then I have found a few others that I liked. I reccomend BioChems 100% Whey Protein, Deisgner Whey and whatever low-carb protein they use at Smoothie King.

Yeah - I would think overall they would want your sugar low, even without the fear of dumping. Sugar is the biggest reason people regain their weight - I believe in the lapbanders are directed to do a low glycemic index diet like us RNYers are... the lower sugar fruits, veggies and whole grains etc.  I would be interested to know what your NUT says about it! Sugar is the devil!!

Hi Shelli, I tried and tried protien powders and milk for about 2 months post op. I liked all the flavors but just could not do them without getting a terrible feeling that would come over me after drinking a protien shake. I found I have a hard time with milk. I used to love the stuff before surgery. I even mixed the powders with water still same effect. Most every morning I have a Balance protien bar with my half a cup of coffee. I was talking to Lotawoman today and she tried some milk for lactose intolorance she said she had this with her cereal. She said it worked well. I have avoided cereal but I may look into trying it with some of this kind of milk.                                              Annie

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

I just wanted to chime in on this one.  I am very lactose intolerent and per chance just placed an order for mor Unjury protein drink powder packs.  I typically drink Lact**d milk or market brand version of it and am fine.  I have also just started trying soymilk and it doesn't taste too bad either. As far as Unjury.  I bought one of those cup shakers from the nutrition store with a shaker ball in it and I really shake it up good.  It really works for getting the clumps out and gives my drink a frosty top to it.  It only cost about $7 bucks but I love the shaker.  I don't think I would have had much success stirring it and would not be able to get it as smooth either.  I even bought a protein mix made from goat's milk from the nutrition store.  I haven't tried it yet because the Unjury seems to work.  You may want to look into that as an option too.
