I have developed tedonitis in my left foot!! I have suffered bouts of it on and off for a couple of years, but have not had it bad in almost a year now. That said, the ONLY thing that helps is Prednisone. That is a no-no.  I even have some here...but would not DARE take it. The other course of treatment is to take NSAIDS )ibuprofen) another no-no.  Has anyone else here had it AFTER RNY????  What did you do?  I am in MISERY! I have tried wrapping it,. massaging it, heating pad....everything that I can think of.  I am going to call my surgeon tomorrow!  I am not sure if he can help, but it is worth a shot.  I don't think my Dr. here has enough experience with gastric by-pass patients. I don't even have any pain meds left from my surgery....:(  And, I am still dealing with insomnia, so here I am my foot is KILLING me and I can't sleep.  I actually cried earlier.  So not like me.  I generally take things well, but it is hard to deal with debilitating pain in my feet (I have had it in both feet at the same time before...it was awful!)  I don't even know what OTC pain meds I can take!!  If someone knows, PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Just an alternative to taking otc meds.  Look to see if you have someone who does acupuncture in your area.  Most insurances don't cover it but it works.

Thanks, but I live in a town of like 3000 people and I seriously doubt most people even know what that is...:)  At this point (or the point when I posted this) I would have tried anything!  <3 Beth

Is predisone a no-no? I actually thought that it was ok. Ask your surgeon. You need to ice it instead of heat. Heat increases inflammation and can make it feel worse. Physical therapy may also be useful. There are many techniques they can do to releive pain and swelling. They can also teach so techniques that you can do for yourself to releive pain or prevent it from coming back. If it's planter fascitis you may need shoes with good arch support. B

I called my surgeon and his nurse was zero help except to say I needed to call my PCP.  I tried to explain that I live in HAMLET and my PCP has NO IDEA what to give me.  She was not helpful, but she did say that some patients took prednisone with no problems.  I did go to my PCP and got liquid prednisone and tylenol 3 since I could get both in liguid form.  And, from my understanding the pill does the damage if it sits in the pouch.  I tried icing it too....at that point nothing helped.  It was a very miserable night! Thanks for your input!  <3 Beth

Give Pinehurst Surgical a call if you don't feel better soon. They have an orthopedic office in Rockingham right behind Richmond Memorial. 997-4579 I work in the Therapy dept at RMH, but I'm an occupational therapist not a physical therapist. I hope you feel better soon. Belinda

Go to youir primary physician and ask for a Cortisone shot in the butt.  I have severe spinal arthritis  and cannot take anything that will help by mouth.  When it gets too bad I opt out for the shot.  Relief is only an hour a way and lasts for weeks to months.   It makes you feel pretty perky for a couple of days as well.   This was my doctor's suggestion after we ran through the list of Meds I could not take and there was nothing else left to try.  It will not effect your surgery or stomach.

I used to go to the Urgent care place here before I got insurance and they gave me cortisone once for it......I didn't even think about it. My PCP gave me liquid prednisone and liquid tylenol 3.  So far, it has not bothered me at all.  I can walk without crutches today...which is a vast improvement.  I called my surgeon and though his nurse was less than helpful, she did say that patients could take liquid prednisone without the negative side effects.  Thanks! <3 Beth

Hi there, I too have tendonitis in my right foot.  Thank God it has improved enormously with weight loss.  That being said, I used to get some decent relief from lidocaine patches.  Perhaps your physician has some samples he can let you try to see if they help.  I just cut the patches in half and apply them to the affected area.  When it is bad, I keep one on all the time and just put a new patch on every 12 hours. Hope this helps and that you feel better soon.

Thanks!  I will try that next time (which I hope never happens!!) I have not had it in close to a year.  When I am teaching and on my feet constanly, it never bothers me (I am firm believer in Crocs!) But now that it is summer and I have been off my feet more (surgery and all that) it has flared up! I got liquid prednisone and tylenol 3.  These are both liquid.  But I will ask about the lidocaine patches!
