Got a boost today...

Drove to Greenville this morning to get my labs done.  Thank goodness for good veins and arteries and a great lab tech!   Afterwards went to work.  Left at 3:10 for an appointment with my pulmonary/sleep dr here in Wilson.  He is the greatest!  When I went to my PCP to let her know that I was planning to have wls she acted like a biddy.  She snapped and said - "Well what are you going to do when all your hair falls out?"  I said, well it will grow back to which she snapped - "Well, not always.  and besides all of my wls patients have gained their wt back plus some."  GEEEEEZZZZZZ !  Anyway my pul/sleep dr. was overjoyed that I was pursuing surgery.  He went on the reiterate all the good things that will happen when I have my surgery...no more diabetes, less or no more back pain, probably be able to get rid of my CPAP, more energy, longer life, and with exercise increased immunity system.  He didn't fuss about my stopping Chantix because of the stomach upset, he does want me to try a lower dose since I was doing so well with my not smoking.  He is a B-I-G proponent of excecise as I have also heard dr. mann is so with both of them on my case, hopefully I will get moving more. I got some of my excitement back today...

Hello Donna My surgeon is Doctor Mann too.  I live in New Bern, NC and I am having surgery on July 9, 2008 in rocky Mount.  When are you having your surgery?  Have you started your pre-op diet yet? Donna B

How would you like a new PCP?  I *heart* mine, and she's pro-WLS. (This kinda sounds like my old PCP.. it wasn't Tonya Little, was it?)

Because I "dealt" with her.  Hubby and I both hated her. Lynn Joyner is who we see.  She's been great.. very supportive of WLS, ordered the tests I've asked for, etc.  Very conservative in that she will send you to a specialist if she doesn't have an answer, etc. Know where the Food Lion is on 97 on the back road to Rocky Mount?  She's in that strip mall.  Hubby and I are both very happy with her. I'm glad too for Dr DeGuehery!  I am definately going to look for a new PCP.  I walked out of the office that day feeling stunned.  After that I don't feel like I'll get the post op help and support that I will need.   Oh and she also brought up the fact that wls patients have to get B12 shots forever...  (and what part of that did I not already know...) I should have looked at her and said and obese people like us don't live long enough to need shots...See what I mean...I always think of the good stuff after the fact...probably a good thing...

I was going to say the same thing. I've never had a B-12 shot and my B-12 is FINE!!! I hate when people (especially doctors) have misconceptions about WLS... it was one of the reasons i waited to long to pursue it! All the misconceptions I was believing! I finally did the research myself and realized it was the best option. I agree, Donna, find a new PCP. You don't need to see a doctor like that. I'm so glad the pul doc was supportive!!!  BTW, in case you didn't know, James had Dr. Mann and he is doing wonderfully at almost 2 weeks out... Right where he should be. Still some pain, but right where he should be at almost 2 weeks out.
