mental health eval. this morning
Hi Shelli,
I'm sorry to hear that you had such a disappointing appointment with the psych., but I'm glad that he'll be clearing you for surgery. You won't have to 'deal' with him again and you're on your way to an incredible, life-changing experience.
I look forward to meeting you this weekend.
Warmly,
Barb

Hi Shelli.......
From what I see here on this forum, a lot of psych's aren't very friendly towards their patients involving WLS. I feel bad he made inappropriate comments, but at least find peace in the fact that you don't have to go back to him a second time as many do here. He may have issues involving WLS himself..who knows? Congrats on getting this big hurdle over!! One step closer!!!!!!!

Shelli,
If in the future you feel you need to talk to someone, get an appointment with Dr. Tami Moore - she's really great. I saw her for my eval and then I have seen her once since surgery and my last visit is this Thursday. I had some other issues dealing with elderly parents so I felt like I needed to see her a few more times.

Sorry to hear you had a difficult and uncomfortable time with your evaluation. ..... I am lucky I had started to see a therapist (for my life issues) and she turned out to be a bariatric therapist as well. She is one of the ones that Southern Surgical - Nash/Rocky Mount uses for their patients evaluations.
She is located in Wake Forest but is a wonderful person. I love going to see her I feel like she is my friend as well as someone who balances out issues with me.
From her group's website:
Her focus is on the emotional adjustments and issues related to food addiction, addiction transfer behavior theory and on the transitional issues associated with preoperative and postoperative weight loss surgery. If you need aftercare call her... http://www.innovativetherapyconsulting.com/index.html -- We offer life-coaching, body-image support groups, bariatric services - before and after surgery support
As well she is a post-op 9 years ago she had a mini-gastric bypass. So she may be more compassionate and understanding than others.
