I'm trying not to panic, but....

Ok - I've read many posts from folks that have reached a stall on their weight loss, so I guess I'm just looking for a little encouragement.  My weight hasn't budged in nearly two weeks, not even an ounce.  My eating hasn't really been any different over the last few weeks, and I know I should up my activity level....  Please tell me that 5 months out and 70 pounds isn't the end of the road for me!    Help!

Short answer?  Nope, probably not. Long answer?  I go through two stalls a month.  Like clockwork.  Each time, I wonder the same thing.  But I keep chugging on and it starts coming off again.  Just follow your rules, keep working out, and it will come off. You have to think about this from your body's perspective.  The body is used to getting lots of yummy food.. maybe a quiet lifestyle..  Then *WHAM!* it starts getting a heckovalot less food, more excercise, the whole major shock of surgery, etc.  It's saying "WTF?!?" and trying to keep from dying by holding on to every little calorie you consume in case of famine. Really, it will start back.  You just have to convince your body that your not killing yourself.

HI Rhonda.  I'm right there with you.  I'm only 8 weeks out and I've been in a 3 week stall.  I keep losing and gaining the same 3-4 pounds over and over.  From what I've heard here at OH and from my doctor/nut, it seems that this can happen from time to time.  Everyone just says to keep doing the right things and the stall will pass.  I certainly hope so!  It's depressing to think I took such drastic measures to lose so little!  Congrats though on your 70 pound loss....that's quite an accomplishment!

Lorie Anne,

Check my response to Rhonda ... it will apply to you too. I know it's frustrating. When I was about 7 or 8 weeks out I had a meltdown because I couldn't believe I'd done this to myself, for this type of outcome. I think that you'll have to agree that a year later, the outcome is worth the sacrifice for me and will be for you too. I know it's hard right now, but keep with the program and have faith, this too shall pass and the weight will come off.

Hugs,

Barb

(((((Rhonda))))),

Check my profile. I'll bet you'll see at least half a dozen "I hope this is not the end of the road..." posts. As Andrea said, your body is taking a necessary breather in this marathon it is begrudingly running. It's trying desperately to save you from the percieved danger of famine ... LOL, but seriously, just keep doing the things you know you need to do. Be sure you are eating the right things; protien first, plenty of fluids, not too many carbs, add a little exercise if you aren't doing any right now ... just a little may be enough to jump start your body. Also, remember that when it's holding on to those pounds, often the tape measure will give up inches. Another thing that I did that really helped me was to use www.thinnerself.com. I would track my weight loss on that and find that I was actually doing okay in 'the scheme of things." It gives you some 'big picture' perspective, using data from others that match your demographics. I'll bet you are doing better than you think you are, even if the scale is stuck.

Hang in there, it will get moving again.

I'm right there with ya. I'm 6 months out and this is probably my third stall since surgery. I've been stalling for almost a month. It's discouraging, but I know the scale will move again in it's own time. So in the meantime, the scale and I are on a break. I'm scared that at the end of the month when it's time to get measured and weigh again at the gym that the lbs will be the same. Such a scary thought. Yet at the beginning of this stall I had my 6 mth checkup and my surgeon was thrilled with my progress. He told me not to change a thing. So we'll just chug through this together. Congrats on that 70 lbs!

Oh, my poor Rhonda. I feel so guilty! You wasted all your "good vibes" sending them over to my scale...and it worked! Now I shall return the favor.   Wizard  It will move again. It finally did for me. In the meantime, I lost a buttload of inches this month. It is true that when the scale is standing still your body is adjusting. Have you measured? You just may be surprised. I sure was. Hang in there kid! xoxo Mare
