Post-op question!

Are sugar free popscicles considered fluids?  I find it MUCH easier to eat one than drink water all the time.  Has anyone frozen the protein juices into popscicles and eaten them?  I was feeling REALLY discouraged about the water....but shouldn't these count too? P.S.  Thanks for all the well wishes!  I am feeling pretty well.  Made a mistake and ate a blenderized scrambled egg...UGH!  It SHOULD NOT be on the early allowed diet!! I was miserable for a few hours...but learned my lesson! <3 Beth

Yes, sugar-free popsicles are considered clear liquids.  Do count them into your fluid count!  They just don't have any protein in them.   I've never done it, but I know that you can freeze protein shakes into ice cubes and eat those.  Don't know why you couldn't freeze the Isopure drinks (clear ones) and do the same.  I have tried freezing the bullet type, though -- not a good outcome in my experience!

Oooh, sorry about the scrambled egg issue. We weren't allowed that until two weeks out, but I did give James a LITTLE bit of potato soup tonight (about 2 oz)... it was all "smooth" with no chunks and he said it went down ok. He is still doing his Boost shakes, but he wanted some "real food".  We *might* try yogurt tomorrow. Anyway, after my surgery, we mixed the protein shakes (boost with protein powder) and froze them on the homemade popscicle sticks. You can get a tray at any store... It worked ok and I was able to get some protein in. I hated those shakes so bad! I did chocolate with vanilla protein powder, but James has been doing strawberry boost and vanilla... I bet that would make good popscicles too. Glad to hear you are doing well. The first couple of weeks are hard, so do your best and know it will get easier!!!

Hi Beth,

As Dena said, you can count the sugar free popcicles. One of things that really saved me was Crystal Lite or the relative imitations. I really tired of just plain water and found that I really seemed to drink more if I used the Crystal Lite. I hadn't been using it as much during the cold weather, but have gone back to it as the weather has warmed again. Now that I'm a year out, I can honestly have anything I want and I used to drink CocaCola like crazy. Now, I honestly prefer the Crystal Lite ... who'd have thought?!

It took a while for eggs to really settle for me. My program was very strict and didn't allow eggs until you were about a month out and I still had some problems with them. Now, they are no problem at all. It just takes some time. Go gently. You will be able to eat 'normally' again. It will just take time.

Hang in there,

Barb

Thanks!  I think the eggs should be moved to the 'soft diet' on my program instead of the pureed. I did blend them up.  I would not dare try meat or anything right now. For this month (the pureed diet) I think I will stick to yogurt, pudding, blended cottage cheese etc. I am not really worried about eating normally....in fact, I don't WANT to eat at all!!  LOL.  I weighed at my FIL's today and if his scale is right, I have lost 14 pounds since my surgery (and 13 before)  it seems very surreal.

At a year+ out, I still cannot eat eggs.  They hurt my stomach something fierce!    I do much better with egg beaters, you could give them a try in a few weeks if you are wanting something like that. The popsicles count, and everyone had great ideas.  Good luck experimenting. Take care. Ellen
