Just checking in.  First week I was extremely tired.  Had a very hard time getting my protein in.  Then I got to come home and things changed.  This week I have felt GREAT.  Protein has become easier to get down I'm getting in 58-70 grams a day.  Fluids....I'm getting in 32-40 (I know a little low).  Coming home I had no problem with the car ride.  The scale is going down every day.  From Jan 1st to today I have now lost 30 pounds. (13 pounds pre-op) Then today.  I felt so great that I feel ready to go back to work.  So I decide to drop my teenage daughter off at RDU airport so she can go visit grandparents.  Well, Three and a half hours there, two hour break and three a half hours back. While driving I was able to get in 41 grams of protein and 20 ounces of water.  I stop sipping about 20 minutes from my house.  I get to my subdivision and the urg to vomit was so bad I had to pull over.  I spent 10 minutes dry heaving that my chest hurts.  I feel rotten all over.  I am not sure why this happened.  It amazes me that nothing came up.  I now have no desire to drink anything. Do you think it was the car ride? I had the protein on the way there so I am not sure that is in the picture.  Well I think I'm going to take a nap and see if that helps. Thanks for listening. Gretchen

Hi Gretchen.........first off great job on the protein and water!!!!!!!  It's easier said than done!  I have been on this forum awhile now and I have seen many people talk about sickness during a car ride when you're still in the early phase.  Myself included!  I drive 4 1/2 hours from Bauman and that drive home was no fun- I too, had the foamies and burpies.  Even a day or two out, DH took me to the store----yup, foamies in the store and parking lot.  I'm not telling you that's it's 100% okay, don't worry,,,,but it does seem normal from what I've experienced and read here.   Hope you feel better soon--take it easy on yourself! That is wonderful that you are getiing in the much protein a day. I am having a hard time becuse the taste free whey protein powder I have makes everything to thick for me. Let me know what your daily schedule and meals consist of. I know one thing that I have been able to put whey in but only sprinkle some before I heat it is Egg Drop soup without it making it so thick and clumpy. I tried some V8 diet splash last night in my blender with ice and protein powder and it made it to thick for me. I am struggling with this two week liquid diet stage because you are so limited I cannot wait to get some creamed soups, refried beans, wendy's chili pureed so I can put some protein powder in there and it won't be so bad. Any advice will be very helpful. I had my surgey on June6, 2008.

Hi Grethchen,

Congratulations on all that you have accomplished. You are doing wonderfully. I think that you may have over done it just a bit. I found that when I did too much, I would 'pay the price' with extreme fatigue and nausea. Remember that while you are getting better, day-by-day, you are still recovering from a major surgery and it will take a while for your body to truly recover. Keep working on it and be gentle with yourself.
