OT... Wedding question...

OK.. First off...  No we haven't set a date yet... lol!   I have been kinda planning stuff without a date so when we do set a date I will already have pretty much everything ready to go...  Right now I am trying to figure out what kind of favors to have at the reception.  I have gone to a LOT of websites and I'm looking for something I can make, that's original but not expensive...   I will be making "Hugs & Kisses from the Mr & Mrs" (Hershey's Hugs & Kisses candy wrapped in tulle with pretty ribbon and a tag) but I'm not sure what else to do.  I want them to be lighthearted but not childish...  If you have ANY ideas please share them.  Our wedding is going to be casual and as inexpensive as I can make it, Rex and I are paying for everything soooooo...  Thanks ahead for the help! Not sure what to tell you, but I went to a wedding recently and they had pink and green M& M's in plastic square boxes with a tag commemorating the event attached. Pink and gree were their colors so it ws appropriate. Not sure as I am not the wedding goer much as of late but I know some of these younger gals will probably chime in here. I know it is going to be a great time for you although I know it is also hectic to plan all the stuff.  Lisa

Lisa, Thanks for the M&M idea, I dunno what colors we'll use even.  If it were up to me I'd do 2 shades of pink (it's my favorite color) but Rex is not a fan of pink.  So it'll probably be some shade of blue or maybe a combination like your friends did.  But thanks for the idea.  I really hope some of these young'ns chime in...  I'm 45 years old and never married, so not into the "fairy tale" type stuff.  I used to coordinate weddings but I did weddings where money was no problem, so big difference for sure.. lol!  I'm trying to get a few things done in advance so I can enjoy the whole thing.  The wedding will probably be in May 2009. Thanks again! Sheryl

Sheryl,

What types of things are meaningful to you and Rex? Fishing, walks on the beach, gardening, etc... I think if you can find a few things that are meaningful to you, then you can launch from there. Friends of ours love wine, so all off the favors were related to wine. My son is marrying a girl of Italian descent, so they are having Italian wedding cookies wrapped in tissue in their colors with a note indicating the significance and history of the wedding cookies.

I'm sorry that I'm not much help, but I'm sure that whatever you choose will be a warm reflexion of your love for one another and will be appreciated by all.

Barb

Thanks Barb, Rex and I are in to our Hens, Rooster & Duck; Our Garden; Fishing; Crabbing; Nascar and pretty much everything I never thought I'd be in to when I lived in San Diego... lol!  Rex is a retired Firefighter and I'm a 9-1-1 Dispatcher (that's how we met), we're pretty down to earth and not into anything fancy.  In fact we're thinking of doin a "pig pickin" for the reception... lol!  But hey, it should be a fun time right?   I thought about getting some little piggys to go with the Pig Pickin... but haven't thought of anything cute saying...   Thanks for the suggestions, everything helps at this point.  I hope your Daughter is doing better! What about cloth napkins that have your names and the date or a favorite recipe? They'd be colorful, useful at the reception and later could be used as a breadbasket liner by your guests. Could do a gingham in your colors? Just a thought. You can get someone with a serger to whip 'em up.

Hi Sheryl, I dont know if you and Rex are going to have little rice bags for people to throw at you but I have heard of using bird seed instead of rice provided people throw it at you outside. Also some people use white Jordan Almonds as favors. Oh My I remember Jordan Almonds loved them with a passion.                                          Annie

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

Annie, Thanks for the post.  We will probably do the bird seed so we don't hurt any little birdies...  Jordan Almonds are a good suggestion also - I saw somewhere a flower made out of Jordan Almonds, I'll have to check it out.  I don't think I've ever eaten one though.  I do like almonds. Thanks girl!!! Sheryl

Instead of rice or birdseed, we did BUBBLES :) They have the little containers of bubbles and we wrapped them in tulle with a pretty ribbon and handed them out like the rice bags and everyone blew bubbles...it was fun and not messy :)
