My friend is comming for a visit and is seriously wanting to go tubing - wanted to see if anybody had reccomendations?? Im in Charlotte and would prefer something not too far away... when I google everything is in the 2-3 hour drive range....with the gas prices Id rather just tube in the pool! lol.

Hey Jenn. We used to go tubing at Green River in Saluda NC. Right on NC/SC line. Close but still in the "mountains"  Its less than 2 hrs from here. Just take 85 to the giant peach in Gaffney and I think you take Hwy 11 and follow the signs  Its really cheap too. You can do 3 mile or 6 mile. Im sure you can google it. Really pretty there too...

I think ...not 100% sure but I thought I seen a thing on tv where there is some kinda white water rafting/tubing park in Charlotte. Something like the US White water something. Its right in Charlotte. It was on a kids program and mine had a fit and said they wanted to go. Sorry I dont know the full name maybe you can google it.  Melissa

Here are just a few tips if you go tubing. We learned these the hard way... 1. SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN 2. Wear some old shoes with soles ( keds, water shoes, etc ) bottom of river bed can get pretty rocky and the current in some spots will easily pull off a slip on shoe 3. Take some diaper rash ointment or vaseline. Slather it on the back of your arms. In the still currents you will be using your arms like oars and the friction of your arms agaist the wet tube will give you a RASH. Very uncomfortable.  4. If you are not a strong swimmer, consider a life vest. Some of the currents get VERY strong. You cant even keep standing in ankle deep water in some spots. It is a lot of fun there tho
