Hey everyone! I have a question. I went to my first nut visit this morning (post-op). When did you start trying pasta? I was thinking you had to wait 6 months, but from what I thought I understood, I can have it now. I am a little confused, and knew that I can depend on you guys. Thanks,   Danielle

ITs funny that you bring this up!! I went to my nutrionist yesterday for the first time post op and she said there is NOTHING that I cannot eat!!! Just make sure you eat your protein FIRST, then add in your carbs!!!  Here I have been eating ALL protein for 3 months and she said I should have been expirimenting with carbs 6 weeks ago...UGH!! well that is nice to know...LOL

Jami,   I know I told her that I was kind of scared to try new stuff, but I am living off of chicken!! She just told me to stay away from the 6-month no-no's like steak, bread, rice, raw veggies or fruits. I love pasta, or that is I did, you know how everything taste different now!! LOL

I still have trouble with pasta from time to time..  however I think that you should certainly follow your Nut's guidelines and give it a whirl now if you feel up to it.  :)

Trying new things can be great or a nightmare. Everyone is different. I avoid pasta  the few times I tried pasta it gave me the feeling like it was swelling in my pouch. Rice I do not do either. Trial and error is the name of the game and sometimes certain foods do great and then you eat it again and it dosent do well. There again you may not have any trouble.                                              Annie

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

I definitely think you are to the trial and error point, Danielle. Pasta and rice were some things I could not do much of in the beginning (still can't really), but a little here and there isn't too bad. I think one of the first few times I ate spaghetti was at K&W before a support group meeting. It is full of hamburger and cheese, so I ate mostly that and a few noodles and barely ate 1/4 of it...  Try it though and see how it makes you feel!!! Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Hi Danielle,

If you check my profile you'll see how my diet progressed at 3 weeks and then again at 3 months, until I was able to have ANYTHING at 6 months. I don't think I did pasta until about 3 months.

Enjoy your new foods.

Now i don't have any problems with fruits and veggies but can't do pasta or most carbs.  I can eat melba toast, bread crust and crackers but no soft bread, noodles or rice.   My doc told me to try whatever i wanted and to listen to my voice.   Said nothing i can't try to eat as long as in moderation. Good luck, Pam

It really depends on your surgeon/NUTs preference - some want youto wait, others dont... there really is no medical reason why you cant have pasta as soon as you are cleared to eat 'normal foods'. I could have pasta at 2 months out. I tolerate it just fine.
