Sort of OT - vision issue

About two weeks ago I banged my head pretty hard and gave myself a good knot... I am sure I had a concussion based on how hard I hit and how quickly the knot formed... it took about a week to completely go down and not hurt. A few days after I noticed my right eye was seeing fuzzy and went and looked up some info on the internet and blurry vision was a side effect of concussions and said it could take a few weeks to recover from any of the various syptoms brougth on by one (blurry vision was one of the symptoms). Since then my left eye has started to go blurry as well... for good measure I switched out my contacts and of course the issue persists. The level of blurryness varies and when it gets bad I am getting a horrible headache (as I am now which is what brings me here). I am not sure if I should contact my PCP, contact the eye Dr or just wait it out longer (there isnt any treatments for concussions except time).... I am nervous because I know some people develop vision issues post-WLS and dont want it to be related to some sort of vitamin deficiency (I had bloodwork done in Jan w/PCP and it was perfect, due for my 2 year f/u with surgeon next month). I dont want to run back to the eye Dr, do another exam, get a new script and have my eyes go back?? I think its more of a focusing issue then me needing a different vision perscription. Who knows. I am, of course, concerned for my health but am hesitant to call the Dr have to spend money to go in and get signed up for testing that may not be necessary... I have so many medical bills (overwhelming amount) already its such a stress to add more. I am wondering if I wait it out longer will it improve but at what point should I be worried? Or should I be worried already? Opinions? Ideas?

Jen, When I had my labs done in October 07 ( before gallbladder surgery ) they were fine, in just 4 months they fell fast, my iron was super low, like put me in the hospital low ..... so could be a blood thing.  On that subject I have found getting my blood done at LabCorp is so much cheaper than the doctors office as a matter of fact my insurance pays 100 percent, at the dr office it is over $200 .... De Melkonian sends a fax to LabCor tells them what he wants checked .... I go in they poke me , then send him the results , very fast and easy. Since I have never had eye issues I can't help you there.  Take Care

Hi Jenn, Eyes are something I know about so I am going to give some advice here.  Please schedule an appt with an ophthalmologist, not an optometrist.  Probably your insurance will cover that instead of the optometrist.  You could have caused some damage to your retina and we definitely want that checked out!  I suspect this is more a situation involving inflammation, but it is definitely a medical issue, not a "vision" issue.  If it's inflammation, there could be damage to the optic nerve if left untreated.  If you need a referral, contact your PCP and tell him or her what you told us.  You will get an appt with an ophthalmologist immediately. Please let us know how you make out.  This is nothing to wait on.

Hey Jenn..sorry to hear about your bang up.  My PCP is really good about telling me whether or not she needs to see me or if I need to go to a specialist.  Not sure if that would be the case with the Charlotte area docs, but here in the backwoods they are nice about saving you time and $$. Please call someone.  I would hate for you to wait it out and regret it later.  Let me know if I can help.

((((Jenn,))))

I know about overwhelming medical bills, but your vision is really nothing to mess around with. Please contact your opthomologist or PCP. I hope to hear how it went soon.

Hugs,

B

A friend of mine had blurred vision after she fell coming out of a tub in a hotel.  Think she went to an opthalmologist and it finally went away.  But i would still suggest going rather being safe than sorry. Take care, Pam

Jennifer,
I hope by now you have seen someone about your vision changes. I wanted to let you know that vision changes after a head injury can be a sign of internal hemorrhage and should be treated as an emergency. Several years ago I knew a physician who hit his head and a couple of weeks later had a headache and vision changes, he ended up having a subdural hematoma evacuated via emergency craniotomy. Please don't dismiss these symptoms without a complete workup from your primary care. Hope I didn't scare the stuffing out of you but better safe than sorry!

I think I'd call the PCP.  Usually it's a cheaper co-pay and if it's from a head injury, they'll be more likely to treat the cause not the symptom.  Just my two cents.... Ellen

Own it all, it's yours!
