OT ... We're out of the hospital and at the Ronald McDonald House in Manhattan

Sarah was released from the hospital this evening and I just finished getting her settled and unpacking. It sure is good to be in a place where you can rest some. I truly appreciate the staff at the hospital and all that they did, but it's so good not to be there anymore. Sarah worked with PT and OT today to ensure she had all the skills she'd need to continue her rehab. Dr. Feldman came in and saw Sarah this morning before he started his long day of surgeries and 'pulled' one of Sarah's drains and said that he'd have to check the other later in the day to see if there was a possiblity that she might be released today. We also found out that they were about to have a 'full house' today and we'd be getting a room mate. While we had been enjoying 'private' accomodations because no one else was in her room, Sarah has had a 'double' room all along. The girl who would be her room mate came in just before we left. She was lovely, as were her considerate family; still, I'm glad that we aren't there having to share an impossibly small space and spend yet another night on one of those 'sleeping chairs.'We've scheduled a visiting nurse to come by to check on Sarah tomorrow and again next week. We've arranged to have the continuous passive motion machine delivered and fitted tomorrow as well. We have her exercises and marching orders from PT and OT, so we'll be busy tomorrow. I'm hoping we also will get some time to go to the market and get some laundry done ... :-).I've been having a difficult time with the kidney stone over the past 36 hours or so, but it seems to have abated for the time being. Thank goodness!! Hopefully that will mean that between the lack of pain issues and a real bed, I might get some real rest tonight. I'm hoping that Sarah does too. It's been a busy, physically challenging day for with the drain removals, dressing changes, and OT/PT exercises. She's worn out and could use some real rest. Thanks again to everyone for the support and prayers.Love,Barb ... and Sarah

Thanks for keeping us updated on Sarah's progress.  My prayers are still with you all.  I know that the closer you get to home the better things will be for all concerned.  Keep up the PCM Sarah, boring as it might be it is the best thing for you quick recovery of strength to you leg.  I'm proud of you gal.  You have endured more than most adults have to in an entire lifetime.  This will make you a stronger person in the end.

Thanks. You are so right; Sarah is a trooper and is doing the 'stuff' she needs to do to maximize the results of this surgery... And sleeping in a 'real' bed, even if it isn't mine was heaven sent last night.

Oh! You are too funny! They don't serve any McD's here. I'm even sure if there is one nearby. I just ordered a bunch of fresh fruit and vegi's from the local upscale gourmet market. It will be dlievered shortly, so we'll have plenty of good, healthy stuff to eat.

We have a follow-up appointment with the surgeon Tuesday and we'll be going home Thursday evening.

Thanks again,

Barb
