How do any of you go about taking pill form medicines that have to be crushed because of size???  I have recently been diagnosed with a "critical UTI" and I have been put on antibiotics for 2 weeks! The pills are about the size of a capsule, so I was told that I have to cru****okay fine, LOL Well yesterday i put it in a small glass of crystal light and it was DISGUSTING, every swig, caused a huge nauseating GAG!!!  SO I thought okay today I will put it in a sugar free chocolate pudding...UGH!!!! I can't even taste the chocolate, it is the most bitter tasting stuff ever!!! PLEASE HELP ME...lol It is crucial that I take this medication, but I CANNOT CANNOT CANNOT take it crushed!!  How small can a medicine be to swallow it with a swig of water?? Could I maybe cut it into 1/3 and try it that way?? Thanks so much for any input!! JAMI PS. My PCM is the one who diagnosed and prescribed the medicine...it was not thru my surgeons office!!

Sweetie, I am sure you could take the pills whole.  Most of our surgeons put us on Actigall immediately post op and those were good sized capsules.  But give your surgeon's office a call.  That will give you a quick answer.  If they tell you it has to be crushed, try mixing with applesauce? Hope this helps!

Hey Jami, Didnt know if you like peanut butter but maybe you could hide it in a teaspoon or tablespoon of peanut butter. I was like 15 before I could swallow a pill and thats what I always did. Crush and hide it in the middle of the spoon., not the bottom or top cuz you will taste it. Sorry you feel bad and have to take this meds but before too long you will be up and at em running after them youngins again Good luck  Melissa

You could get liquid antibiotics.. I think I remember augmentin for one of my horrible UTI's.  The only liquid you really should stay away from is Ceftin (OMG, I thought I was going to die taking that crap.. it litterally took the finish off my stainless steel sink as I puked it up).

I had an abcess tooth a week ago and thought i couldn't take a pill so i requested my dentist give me a liquid.   I ended up with the most vial medicine i ever tasted.   In the a.m. i would drink part of a CIB, slug the liquid back and then eat melba toast which helped absorb the taste.  In the evening, i stopped at Wendy's and got a chili and took a few spoons of it right afterwards and the spicy got rid of the taste.     I went to the surgeon on Friday and he told me no reason i can't take a pill so all of the torture was for nothing.   Please call your surgeon and see if he is of the same opinion.     Good luck, Pam

THANKS SO MUCH for all of your replies!! You ladies are the BEST!!!
I am going to start by cutting it in half and chugging it with some milk!! If that does fine then I might be brave and try the whole pill!! ((HUGS)) JAMI

I agree with the others Jami...you should be able to take the whole pill, just check with your surgeon's office to be sure.  I was taking huge pills a few days after my surgery because they didn't give me liquid pain killer.  go figure!    they still worked just fine though.  LOL Have you started wearing any of those clothes I brought you yet??
