Oh make a decision already....calling lapbanders!
Just when I'm so sure that RNY is right for me....I'm not so sure! I have a severe vitamin D deficiency already so I'm thinking that the lapband may be a better fit for me...I have 95-100 lbs to lose...Is that unheard of for the lapband? Is it realistic to think I can even get that off?....If you have the lapband, how much weight have you lost and when did you have it done?

You should post your question on the main lapband forum here: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/lapband/. There are MANY people there who have lost that amount of weight and more. I had my surgery on Dec. 27, 2007 and have lost 48 lbs - 9 of which were on the pre-op diet. Good luck on your decision.
It is certainly not unrealistic to think you can lose 95 lbs. with a band. I have lost 80 lbs. with very little effort so I am sure that if I got back on the "band wagon"
I could lose more but I have slacked off on getting my adjustments. My band is 4 years old and the newer bands are much better configured than the older bands. In fact, I'm kinda jealous of persons being banded now because the newer bands are supposed to be more effective (I think it's a little wider than my band.)
Do your research and then go with your instinct. With a good doctor and nutritional team, you can be just as successful with the band as with any other bariatric tool.

I was banded July of last year and you can see my ticker below. I love my band, it was the right choice for me. When I went for my initial consult with Dr. Bauman, I asked him right out, which he thought would be better for me, and he replied lapband, because I don't have a great amount of weight to loose like some others. I would ask Dr. P the same question, but ultimatly, the choice is yours. Either way, You've got a Great doctor! Good luck and keep us informed!

Hey, Michele!!! I know you're read my profile (per PM)and have seen the results I have had with Lapband! I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!! I can eat whatever I want, just a lot less of it!! I've seen some people on the lapband board who have lost 150 pounds and more! You can do this with the lapband! It won't do it all for you, but it is a great tool to help you get there!! Like with all WLS, you will have to exercise and just make the right choices when it comes to food! I would have lapband surgery again if I had to!!! I LOVE IT! You should try and go to a support meeting to talk to some WLS patients to see what life is like after surgery. You'll really get a chance to see that we have a normal life just making better choices and eating a lot less! It will also help you decide which WLS is best for you!

Thanks everyone for your responses....I called my surgeon's office (Dr. Pirello in with Dr. Bauman) and now I need to go back in because I want the lapband instead of RNY. I will also be attending a Lapband seminar on 6/5. Again, thank your all your information and support....It's much appreciated!!!

Hi..
I had lap band in 97....didn't work then...but that was a different type and I am sure it has been improved...I lost 10 pounds in 8 years..threw up daily...choked on chicken...salads..veggies...no matter how I adjusted....didn't matter....lost teeth because of being sick....etc....I then had rny 12/05..I went from a 26 to a 4 and it was the right choice for me....I have heard the new band is much better..but I wanted to share the "other side" of the band issue.....You would think throwing up everyday I would lose...but I didn't...oh well.....also.....I have been seen by a blood specialist and the recent discovery is that nearly EVERY person who is obese has a severe vitamin d deficiency....I do as well....and there seems to be a direct connection with being overweight.....I am on 2000 mg of vitamin d per day....whatever you choose to do..I wish you the best of luck....!!
I had terrible trouble with the lapband and never lost the weight (2 slips - erosion). It was really awful. I had a revision to a RNY in August and have lost 110 pounds and am a size 4. I am grateful every day for my RNY and wish I had chosen it in the first place. I'm SO sorry I ever chose lap band. To me, there is absolutely no comparison between the two surgeries, having had both. RNY works night and day better in terms of weight loss, hunger and everything else. I think you would have a much better chance of getting the weight off. It also comes off a LOT faster, which is really nice. I am much healthier now, much more energy. There's just really no comparison.
